Schneier quotes @simon at length on ChatGPT's new memory dossier feature, and ends with this sobering insight: “That’s an extraordinary amount of information, organized in human understandable ways. Yes, it will occasionally get things wrong, but LLMs are going to open a whole new world of intimate surveillance.”

In the last five years, we've gone from "employees will never have to go into an office" to "employees need to be in the office because creative and innovative work can only be done face-to-face between humans" to "lol we don't need humans"

Arrgh! For the second time I made the mistake of buying an eText (published by O’Reilly) from #Booktopia and finding it almost impossible to read. There is a distinction between eTexts and eBooks in Booktopia that isn’t made clear, but obviously affects how you can read them.
The only working option I found was to read it in a desktop browser tab from booktopia.vitalsource.com, which is ugly and difficult. The link for the iOS reader fails with a message that it is not available in my region. I think Booktopia used to have an iOS app but doesn’t any longer.
Has anybody worked out a solution (other than don’t buy these things)?
UPDATE: I have loaded the vitalsource reader into Safari on iPad, which is an improvement.
I've discovered the sickest burn you can drop on someone who tries to engage you in grievance culture is simply "you're obviously very passionate about this".
They will scramble to tell you that they are NOT hyperfocused on [teenagers/being trans/immigration/recreational drug use]. It's NOT a personal interest of theirs. They just like to approach strangers and talk about it, that's all. Definitely not a life focus, hobby or personal passion.

Angle in degrees and radians?
It once took me 2-3 days (on and off) to track down a "this doesn't look right" bug where I was passing degrees to trig functions that wanted radians.
Seeing fellow Disabled people post about needing "safe" spaces to speak about "woke" ideology like gender is disappointing at best.
It is dehumanizing to label people like myself as 'ideology' just for existing. The current regime is using these bigoted claims about me not being a 'real person' and only an 'ideology' to rip away my rights.
What more do you all want? My community dead? That's the end result of this assault on my personhood no matter how y'all try to justify these 'beliefs.'
What an amazing allegory!
