This is a colour wildlife photo in landscape format of two Chinstrap Penguins (Pygoscelis Antarcticus), in the wild, with one seemingly in dispute with the other. Graham Land, Antarctica (2024). Dominating the lower half of the image is a scene of medium grey, sharpe and well cracked smalll rocks with a wide depression in the centre of the image. In this part are two Chinstrap Penguins. The one on the left has it's back to the camera with it's head turned to the right. The penguin on the left is viewed in profile, it's left side in view and is facing the first Penguin. Our second penguin is leaning forward, beak wide open as if unhappy about the first Penguin. The birds top surfaces (backs) are jet black including the flippers (wings). The lower surfaces are white. The beak is black while the face is white. There is a thin black line stretching from the top of the head, behind the eye, under the chin and then up the same direction on the other side: Hence the name, Chin Strap Penguin. In the distant background is the snow covered steep terrain of a mountain on the opposite side of the bay with a thick diagonal black stripe of bare rock stretching down from the top right corner.

I guess the natural food supply is dwindling as we move towards winter and the birds at the feeder are getting a bit territorial. Usually chickadees (like this chestnut-backed pal) flit in and out in a fraction of a second. But he was camped out like this for at least 5 minutes. I'm not sure exactly how he's going to defend his position but he looked pretty tough.

11/30/18 (or more) Harrier hunting at dusk

In this photo, taken in low light from far away, we see a harrier, both of its claws outstretched, angling in to capture its prey. We can see a flash of the white stripe at the base of its tail, the white mask around its eye and its beak, and its reddish-brown pantaloons on its outstretched legs, and the bold beige-and-black stripes of its tail. The bird's right wing is raised, its other wing is pushing the air downward. This harrier is banking hard left.
