It's "Fuck the Nazis" week at Somerville Theatre. A whole week of films where nazis get their asses handed to them.

@tokala Hey, I recognize that hallway! I was there a few weeks ago.
She was one of the funniest women of all time. Rest in peace, Ruth. Thank you for all the great laughs.
RFK Jr’s push to create a registry of all people with autism should be setting off alarm bells.
We’ve been here before.
I talk a lot about the Nazi’s Aktion T4 program, because many people forget that they tested the gas chambers on disabled people. We were targeted first because we were seen as expendable. “Useless eaters”. People no one would miss.
Did you know they also created a registry of children born who might have mental or physical disabilities? Midwives were paid to report them to the government, and lists were made.
Creating a registry of autistics won’t “solve autism”. But it could set the stage for something far more sinister.
We must remain vigilant and fight back.
Disabled people are not expendable. Autistic people are not dangerous. Health supremacy is.

"Trump administration texted college professors' personal phones to ask if they're Jewish."

As all academics know, you can't ask this question in a job interview.
https://www.eeoc.gov/pre-employment-inquiries-and-religious-affiliation-or-beliefs
But I guess it's OK when it's not a job interview, when it's the govt asking, and the govt includes a high-ranking official who gives #Nazi salutes.
This happened at #BarnardCollege. Probably no accident that Barnard is affiliated with #Columbia. Trump officials said they had a right to the personal contact info, and the school handed it over.

@academicchatter
Confirmed --- Nazis!!
You know, how people will wrongfully call someone a Nazi, and it almost seems like the word has lost meaning to some?
Well, The Donald John Trump regime is now looking to see who is or is not Jewish, before hiring them. That appears to be a disqualification for the job.
They are, indeed, Nazis.

@david As a Speed Racer fan since the very early 70's, I originally complained that other cars were also doing the jumps in the opening race, making the Mach 5 not special. But they covered that by creating the Trick Racer Circuit, saying other cars copied what the Mach 5 could do. It was a nice advancement of the overall world-building from after the anime, and allowed for the characters to be older. I need to watch the movie again, I saw it in the theater when it came out.
@fluffy Interesting concept. I wonder how well it would handle in snow and ice of the northern part of the U.S. and in Canada. I do like that it is meant for local driving only given its limited range, sets expectations right up front.
And so the con is over for me. I spent the last four days at Furcationland in Portland Maine. Had a good time, other than hurting my foot and then walking on it too much. I really need to learn what restaurants are near the hotel and when they are open. Place I wanted to hit on Sunday was closed, and searching for places open without an hour plus wait on Friday night was a disaster. Stayed at the Westin this year, worked out better than the overflow I was in last year. Now to sleep then drive home in the morning.
@sec_yote_agenda very glad to hear there was no contact. I hope the blue SUV owner has to explain to a judge tomorrow why their license should not be suspended and the SUV not impounded.
I can tell that I am heading out to Furcationland on Thursday, my annual spring cold hit me last night and today. Nothing to keep me from the con but I hope my nose dries up before it because I am going through a lot of tissues today.
I need to take a mental health break from reading here for a few days. Recent news is getting to me and it is unavoidable. I may still post how things are going with the Linux mini-PC stuff, next up is to install Alma Linux which is filling the gap left by Red Hat ending CentOS. I may also give Fedora itself a try.
@keys you did well even if that is outside of your comfort zone
@Transbian_Arsonists Oh Doctor Doctor can't you see I'm burning butning. (Thompson Twins song reference)
After live booting Xubuntu 24.04.1, I decided that I liked Linux Lite better as the default OS. Installing version 7.2 now, although I know in 9 days version 7.4 comes out. I won't add too much to the 7.2 install this time (just Firefox since it comes with Chrome, Clementine for internet radio streaming, and VNC for remote access). I may try to get remote desktop working on it, but will hold off on other stuff until 7.4 is out.
Well, I woke up to an utter failure. The last Linux distro install I did overwrote my Linux Lite partition, and I don't see the partitions for the other installs anymore. This is what I get for using what was supposed to be a system to experiment on as a primary system, I lost all the data I had under Linux Lite.
Time to start doing installs again. Do I go with Linux Lite again as primary, or something else like Xubuntu?
@drifa Which furcon are you referring to here? I have two coming up, both in New England, and missed the third one in this area last January due to being sick right before the con.
Hey Canadians:
If you're thinking of visiting the United States ...
1) First, don't
2) If you must, have a clean backup phone for traveling into the US
3) Take the same precautions you would take if you were visiting Russia
4) Seriously though, don't
Hey Canadians:
I just heard about two Canadian friends of a friend who were driving into the US
the border agents demanded they unlock their phones; the agents searched the phones, found anti-Trump stuff on one ...
... then confiscated that phone and neither person was allowed into the US
These folks weren't activists or anything -- the search doesn't appear to have been triggered by that
so, govern yourselves accordingly
