May i ask why? The ISP doesn't supply a plain ONT?

After some thinking my conclusion was that basically the form factor and customer connection side (SFP vs copper) is different, but both have software and are controlled by the ISP.

For me this was the reason to accept the ISP's Nokia XS-010X-Q. Less restrictions because there is a plain cat-5e cable between ONT and router.

Short and sweet explanation. I spot one potential issue though. MODE="0666" allows any user to access the programmer. An alternative to limit access is creating (or reusing) a group, set mode to 0660 and add users to this group that are allowed to use the programmer. Maybe openocd creates such a group.

The answer is (as always 😁) it depends.

One way forward could be to know what you want to achieve and try build it with many options. That way you learn about individual concepts like switching, vlans, ip, ip filtering, ip state, etc.
