My small garden is waking up and I can’t believe this is going to be my first full year of having a (very small) garden! I’m so excited to learn more about outside gardening and watching everything bloom and getting visits from pollinators 🥹🫶🏼

Indigo Buntings are so vibrant and they are so much fun to work with. I love the way their color just pops out in their environment. They love to perch high on the tip top of trees which makes for some cool compositions, but it is also great when they come low and perch on decaying logs like what you see here.

Horizontal frame. A decaying log enters from the lower left corner and extends diagonally about 4/5 to the right of the frame. The bunting is vibrant indigo/blue and perched on the end of the log and faces left in a perfect profile. Its right foot is suspended in the air and its beak is slightly parted in song. The background is mostly green with some hints of orange and the foreground consists of green foliage with small white flowers.

Plant growth creeping across the wall of a graveyard that I pass daily on my commute. Always nice to see some colour in a very grey patch of town.
