Hi! Bloof Books is a #SmallPress founded by @shanna Compton in 2007, publishing #poetry and #HandPrinted #art. This is our new #fediverse profile on . We’ll be sharing #poems from our #authors, announcements about new #books and #chapbooks, and probably some photos of #bookarts as we make things in the #studio. We function more like a group art project vs. a brand, OK? Happy to be here.
(All posts are by Shanna, unless otherwise noted.)

Who is #VeronicaRyan, this year’s Turner Prize winner?

Ryan, who is 66 years old, is the second Black woman and the oldest #artist to ever win the prize, but for many, the artist may not be a household name.

Rhea Nayyar highlights Ryan’s practice and how she delves into the experiences of generational #migration, contradictions, and paradoxes.

@SorayaMcDonald Perhaps some should be teaching history, arts, civics, and critical thinking on TikTok…

a little #introduction: I'm Jenny (she/her), an artist and writer based in Oakland. I wrote a book called How to Do Nothing and have another one coming out next year called Saving Time. I also used to teach internet art and was once an artist in residence at a dump (still miss it). currently I'm very into #geology and am lucky to be reading an advance copy of @alden's Deep Oakland: How Geology Formed a City. generally speaking, if I see a hill, I will walk up it.

Komorebi
In #Japan the dappled light the sun creates passing through #trees is called komorebi, pronounced koh-mo-reh-bee. It’s made up of the kanji characters for tree 木, shine through 漏れ, and sun 日

Shadows of grief, rejection, or disappointment at times shroud our lives.

In times of darkness, remember the komorebi. Observe, feel, absorb the gentle dance between light and dark, witness the shade being filled with light.

Light passes through the canopy of copper beech, tall contrasted trunks reach from the woodland floor, for the viewer to witness a copper glow, a dance between light and shade

Ant news! Among humans, babies nurse. But among ants, the roles are reversed: adult ants nurse from pupae, young ants who are in stasis while they develop. Scientists have just discovered that pupae in many ant species secrete a nutritious fluid that adults drink and share with newly-hatched larvae. If the fluid isn't drained off, the pupae will drown. The researchers also believe ant milk plays a major role in ant social structures, possibly shaping behavior. nature.com/articles/d41586-022

Unfortunately I have to stop actively working on for a while due to health issues. I really wish I could implement Mastodon 4 features and squash every bug, but it's not possible for me to do so right now.

I know the app has become important to a lot people, so I'm open to a new maintainer who can carry on its values of privacy and accessibility taking it over if there's interest and a fit. Email info@metabolist.org if you (or your organization) are interested

@ArtWriting I confess that I still bridle at Nochlin’s premise that there have been no great women artists. I can’t bring myself to agree.
