Good that the ministry didn't try to spin it as positive news. Rather kept a neutral stance.

Rupee depreciation + global uncertainty + stricter VISA norms for Indians.

All might be contributing equally to this.

Visited the Kolkata Book Fair after 8 years. Stood in no queues. Bought nothing. Best evening in a while. Wrote about it in my latest blogpost:

I gave 42 years to this thing, and the thing changed into something I’m not sure I recognise anymore. Not worse, necessarily. Just different. And different in a way that challenges the identity I built around it and doesn’t satisfy in the way it did.

@minmi Yeah! Have sat through so many demos by consulting companies and ended up questioning if I am an idiot or this adds no value at all.

For my tech related blog - I am using my own website, and cross-posting via substack for the distribution.

Might have to think about something for my personal one too. (ordinaryanalysis.substack.com/)

One thing that I like about newsletters hosted in personal websites is how different each of them looks. As if you get to know about the design language, and thinking of the owner.

Substack has made the distribution way easier, convenient and simpler. But every other blog/newsletter now looks the same (including mine).

Not really surprised with this. A big reason for burnout is working endlessly without achieving a particular goal, or not knowing when you can stop, and the goal is achieved.

With the current GenAI-driven productivity initiatives - a lot of projects will be facing this. Not saying, GenAI is valueless. But we need to define the goals clearly.

When the tools make more feel doable, the definition of 'done' keeps drifting.

I write about analytics, product, and AI at Data Signal. Recently covered Bayesian inference in football (Antonio Conte's UCL luck), LLM ensemble methods, and when product changes mask operational problems.
If any of this resonates, would love to have you as a reader:

As a long time Linux user; do you know how bad you have to fuck up your operating system to make people WANT to use Linux?

Regular people in my life keep asking me for advice and... I mean, cool. But, like, what the fuck is Microsoft doing over there?

"ETGraphics"? Seriously? How is a badly formatted 'graphic' made out of some LLM tool with spelling mistakes "ETGraphics"? If a human in the 'Graphics' team of ET was handed this project, that deserves the 'ETGraphics' tag. Did no one at ET check this so-called 'Graphic' before it went live?

I’ve been asked on TV hits and interviews lately to explain why decentralized social media is better, especially re: Mastodon.

How would you explain the benefits of a platform like Mastodon and the fediverse to someone in just a few sentences? How would you make the argument that platforms like Mastodon allow for more free expression than big tech controlled apps?

Would love to hear people’s thoughts! Trying to make my arguments most effective
