@claudiom Have a safe trip home!
@hyde @johnnydecimal Yeah, I think digital clutter is often much more insidious than physical clutter, since it is usually less visible.
@johnnydecimal Fully agree. In particular with respect to email (I definitely need to get better on this...).
#Bloggers and books!
I've started asking my #OverUnder guests to recommend books.
Here are their suggestions:

The holidays can be a really tough time. The advice I often heard was, "Volunteer at a soup kitchen. Help others. Get out of your head." It's perfectly fine advice, but unhelpful if the mere thought of interacting with people is overwhelming. Anyway, here's a thing I did one year that did help:
I bought a Cookie Monster costume, went to the airport, and waited at arrivals with a sign that said "COOKIE"
Didn't have to talk to anyone and boy did I get to watch people's faces light up.
A new day. A new chance to succeed.
After a hectic yesterday, the day is off to a slower, more relaxed start.
No major efforts on tap. Not exactly a full recovery day but at least one that allows for a more relaxed approach.
Almost 90 minutes until sunrise. If I don't get distracted, I might win this morning's race with dawn. I'm looking forward to seeing what the day brings.
It's kinda peaceful, this pause before the dawn, when anything is possible.
May you find some peace #today

@johncarlosbaez Yeah, I know it sounded a little greedy, and it was certainly not meant to disrespect your time and efforts... 😉
Well, I think I would go for Category theory then (though I would be happy with every other subject as well).
@johncarlosbaez @Garrett ...or General relativity, or the octonions...
@johncarlosbaez @Garrett All of it, actually. If I had to choose, I would probably pick GUTs, Clifford algebras or Category theory.
A new day. A new chance to succeed.
I'm racing sunrise again this morning. I may need a coat since autumn seems to be flexing its chilly muscles.
For the moment I have some peace and quiet. The advantage of waking too early. Before the day's noise has a chance to build.
I'm taking advantage of it now because the day ahead will likely be extra noisy as we re-arrange the furniture and do some neglected yard work before it gets too cold.
May your day hold some moments of peace and quiet #today

My favorite kinds of toots:
- I thought this was interesting.
- I went outside, this is what I saw.
- I’m making something.
- I’m trying something new.
- This is my jam. (Any kind of jam.)
- I made a thing and I’m proud!
- I’m bad at it a thing, but I’m sharing anyway!
- This is my important animal or person.
- Whimsical shitpost.
- Real life mundane thing.
The temperate rainforest here looks like a ...um... rainforest at the moment.
as the moon rises
on a starry sky, autumn's
night chill slowly spreads
no trace of the mouse -
except footsteps in the flour
scattered on the floor
yellow leaves dancing
wildly in the air, stirred up
by harsh autumn wind
Maintenance announcement
UPDATE: Done
The media backend (S3) will be briefly unavailable this morning, due to updates. This unfortunately does require a reboot; the downtime will be < 10 minutes.
We are working on adding some redundancy for the main apps (Mastodon, Peertube), but this unfortunately will not go for our backend. 48TB is a lot to add redundancy.
We do use ZFS RAID and we do have backups, naturally.
I've deactivated my Bluesky account.
I haven't exactly been having fun there- today's "CEO inviting transphobia" news doesn't help.
I was there to make connections but honestly it's increasingly just becoming noise. I remain convinced that real decentralization is better (warts and all).
