Whaaaaat!? This is something I did not see coming
The update nobody asked for: we are now a team of 5 utterly overwhelmed people as we got close to 5000 applications in a couple of weeks (before that the largest pool had been 570 ish in a month).
Has anyone dealt with this effectively? Note we take about 8 interns per year so we've been quite methodical in the past and gone through every application, cover letter and portfolio.
@ogi absolutely! We opened this internship especially to create more opportunities for underrepresented folks in OSS but we cannot process them as we have in the past and I am absolutely livid.
@melissawm
@hugovk
Despite our best efforts, strengthening spam filters, updating the application process, pausing applications we have continued to get thousands of applications.
We've had three members of our HR/recruitment team helping and everyone is just overwhelmed.
More exciting news from us? You bet! The #PyConUS 2025 schedule is officially liveποΈπ
Head to http://us.pycon.org/2025/schedule/ for this yearβs amazing lineup, meet our keynote speakers, and register for tutorials, summits & events!
All the details: https://bit.ly/3QFf45P
We opened applications for our yearly OSS internship and in less than a day we got over 1.3K applications, and in less than a week we have totalled close to 3K. That is a big jump from previous years, but on close inspection a LOT of those seem to have been automated with AI tools.
That makes it impossible for the two of us to go through all the apps as every year, even bringing in other folks we cannot keep up. As a small company these tools are more trouble than anything else π«
