New preprint from the lab. Ji trained mice on an interactive auditory task in which they control the frequency of a tone with a wheel. Imaging showed that neurons in A1 encode sound, action, and errors. Thus, A1 not only encodes sensory driven activity but also represents the complex interplay between sensory inputs, expectations, and errors. So much more to discover!

We are looking for high, roomy and _implant-friendly_ non-IVC mouse cages. Any suggestions?
#DFG News re: #Exzellenzcluster - more money (to 0.5 billion/y) more cluster. Nice.

With Musk’s call to prosecute Fauci, I’m thinking it’s finally time to step back from Twitter.

I’m also enjoying Mastodon more.
There are still powerful communities there doing good (URMs; advocacy) and I don’t fault anyone for staying there for that. But I don’t think I can justify my own contributions there, ethically.
How are all of you thinking about this topic?
Nature has an article on the growing number of abandoned people with neural implants from companies that have gone out of business or pivoted.
Reading Flowers for Algernon as a teenager devastated me, and I still get related nightmares. I cannot imagine what this situation must be like to live through.

It's strange how as you get better at something, the world conspires to have you spend less time doing it.

Our kid's iPhone just survived a full 90deg, 1400rpm washing machine run with very minor damage. I am impressed.
If you happen to own the cheap but amazing Behringer X-TOUCH mini #MIDI controller, you can use it to navigate in #Fiji 's #N5 #BigDataViewer plugin. The video is an older capture from when I was playing around with the controller but it work's exactly the same. The API works for all #MCU devices but you would have to provide the layout https://github.com/saalfeldlab/n5-viewer/blob/master/src/main/java/org/janelia/saalfeldlab/control/mcu/XTouchMiniMCUControlPanel.java (also, infinity VPots without physical min and max are useful for this). PRs welcome!
@MatteoCarandini It would be great to have an _effective_ (home door to city center) map of air travel (incl. 2h pre-flight arrival, commute, etc.) for comparison as well...

Weeks after I did a dual circuit tracing surgery, we gathered around a computer to see imaging results. Marveled at the beauty of the brain slice image: First result, which we further validated over time and with channelrhodopsin-assisted circuit mapping.
