This week was an important week for #weather #satellite
people, and everybody who wants accurate #weather forecast (...like *everybody*, I presume...).

The @eumetsat Council gave green lights to continue developing 2️⃣ #weather satellite systems in Europe: EPS-Sterna and EPS-Aeolus.

EPS-Aeolus "Aeolus-2" would extend today's wind lidar mission by ESA.

EPS-Sterna would bring the Arctic Weather System constellation of microwave sounding small-sats to operation.

We cannot compare...but here are two unrelated news from last week that triggered my attention:

- #Switzerland will spend US$ 2.74 billion to clear an hazardous WWII ammunition depot in a small village in the Alps . Affected people: 50 .

- #UN is seeking US$ 3.1 billion to have #EarlyWarning system against natural #hazards in place in developing countries. Affected people: 2.5 billion.

Some post #COP27 thoughts on the new (but yet quite undefined) #lossanddamagefund.

As 24 hours early-warning notice of hazardous weather event cut the ensuing damage by 30 per cent, investing in #earlywarningforall in developing countries could considerably alleviate claims for #lossanddamage !

The tricky attribution of an extreme weather events to climate change (or not) will become a very very sensitive topic in the coming years (only sea level rise is indisputable)!
