📱We’re excited to share a new prototype that brings statement editing on Items to mobile.

You have been asking for the ability to edit statements on Items via mobile devices. Until now, this hasn’t been possible in the mobile view, requiring editors to switch to desktop mode to make edits, resulting in a clunky and frustrating experience.

🎥 Watch the video demo of the prototype here and tell us what you think at the project discussion page: w.wiki/ETtr

@jCarttarBrooke I am, in fact, calling for the end of capitalism with a rapid shift into a degrowth phase, leading to a truly sustainable steady-state economy. That’s the only hope we have of avoiding cataclysmic societal collapse.

Schematic diagram presenting a needed shift from growth to a post-growth economy. In the growth phase, the size of the economy steadily increases, first achieving decent living standards for workers and citizens, but then surpassing the carrying capacity of ecosystems and becoming unsustainable, doing significant ecological damage. In the degrowth phase, the economy shrinks until it is back within the carrying capacity of ecosystems while still providing decent living standards. Remaining between these two levels is the aim of a steady-state economic system.

"Replace Scrolling With Microjournaling" artofmanliness.com/character/a

Interestingly, I've been doing some version of this for several years now, though not so much focused on generic journaling — instead, whenever I'm taking a break, I try to remember to update the record of my day so far, and revisit the plans for the rest of it. It's quite reassuring to look back and see where my time has gone, and general patterns of behaviour, energy, etc. (I first used Teuxdeux for this; now using Timestripe.)

@tilvids I am unable to log into my account (waldyrious). When trying to authenticate with my credentials, I get the message "User email is not verified. Request new verification email"; upon clicking the link, I see the message "Success: An email with verification link will be sent to <my email>", but I never seem to get the email. What can I do? (I know this is not meant to be a support channel, but posting publicly in case others encounter the same issue.)

It’s so frustrating knowing at every turn that we don’t have to live like this. We could house and feed and clothe everyone. We could have healthcare and education for everyone. We could live in walkable cities with clean air. We could have art and music. We could end gun violence. We could make sure everyone can vote. We could eradicate disease. We have the collective power and technology. But for some reason, not the will

@wikifunctions please publish the "Abstract Wikipedia and the Wikimedia AI Strategy" section as a separate Diff blog post! It's really well written, and helps center the vision for Abstract Wikipedia in a way that's both concrete and inspiring 😃

#3084 - Unstoppable Force and Immovable Object

The comic consists of three panels showing a diagram with a square object, labelled "Immovable Object", and a big arrow, labelled "Unstoppable Force", both on a flat surface.

Top panel: The arrow is located to the left of the square object.
Middle panel: The arrow has moved halfway into the block, where it appears semi-transparent.
Bottom panel: The arrow has passed through to the other side of the block, which remains in the same place.

Caption below the panels: "I don’t see why people find this scenario to be tricky."

Hidden text: "Unstoppable force-carrying particles can't interact with immovable matter by definition."

Nintendo Switch 2 Won’t Support the Original ‘Labo VR’ Kit roadtovr.com/nintendo-switch-2

Not that it matters much, since the console isn't exactly cheap, but I'm saddened to see these lower-cost entry-level VR experiences being abandoned, leaving the market only to higher-end expensive products. At least Meta is catering to midrange prices with its Quest 3S series, but I still mourn the death of Google's Cardboard and the Daydream project that aimed to enable VR experiences using smartphones 😢

The other very simple feature I wish mastodon had was a way to view one (1) most recent post from each person you follow in order with no repeats. People post at different rates and I often like to go through the people I follow and see what I missed. This feature would make newer users feel more included and boost engagement generally and it's just a fancy search query ...

(read the post after this before responding with a "solution" please)

's new RVI program (Royalties for Everyone) aims to share part of the revenue from its natural resources (in this case, oil reserves) with all citizens. It's not a proper yet, but it's a significant step along the way. The country joins Norway, Alaska, its neighbor Guyana, and several others in ensuring the wealth from its natural resources benefit everyone, as it should be. Well done! aljazeera.com/news/2024/11/30/

@yvanspijk this is fantastic! I wonder how soon this data will be complete enough in @wikidata to enable a dynamic version of this graph to be produced by @LucasWerkmeister's Wikidata Lexeme Graph Builder tool. For example: lucaswerkmeister.github.io/wik (etymological graph of "water")
