No More Tokens—Locking Down npm Publish Workflows, by @zachleat:
Shai-Hulud compromised a dev machine and raided GitHub org access: a post-mortem
GitHub, what did I do to offend thee?
For some reason, it seems GitHub is blocking me – specifically, all my blogs. More specifically, all the blogs with my specific well regarded UK hosting company. That was unexpected.
Is GitHub blocking me?
I was going to post some messing about with AI, but it was time to update FAIR (the indie WordPress repo created after the WordPress drama and blocking so updates cannot be stopped by you know who if he doesn’t like you). As before on this site, it failed with: Download failed. Forbidden
It has been an issue for a while but tonight I have set out to try and solve that. This is a log of my efforts.
I installed Debug bar and only saw this little error.
TypeError: can't access property "attr", t is undefined
https://matrixdreams.com/wp-admin/js/updates.min.js?ver=6.9 line 2
I’m not sure that is relevant.
I updated and reopened the ticket on github.
A wise support person asked:
@lordmatt is it possible for you to distill the minimum setup required to reproduce this?
I installed the slightly older version on my social node. Same problem.
Hmm.
I created a new install of WordPress on a subdomain, selecting UK English, of course. Then I installed the plugin (one step out of date) manually.
Unsupprisingly, it detected my need to update.
Update failed. Forbidden.
Well, Belgium.
I opened a ticket with my ever-wonderful hosts (truly love their tech support team). One of our AI overlords replied. The AI assumed I had admin access to the hosting company servers (lol, nope) and was thus not at all useful to me. This was because I had already done all the simple, sensible stuff it would know to suggest.
To my delight, my host employs nighttime tech support. So I gave Scott S the keys to the temporary WordPress. I don’t know who Scott is, but he is my hero right now.
After a good look around, Scott found nothing else on their end of things, but said it looked like GitHub was blocking the request.
Belgium, man. Belgium.
I was not expecting the outcome to be, “well, GitHub hates you”.
So, I started a thread to see if GitHub had anything to say. And just like that, we wait.
Tune in next bat-time to learn what happens in this “thrilling” saga.
I’m filing this as a review because I am chaotic like that.

Is #GitHub just straight up trying to fool people here?
VideoOptimizeJob
I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, but, I've been racking my brain on this for a while. Noticed the update a few hours ago. Just rough drafted something, what do you think about something like this for VideoOptimizeJob? I didn't test anything & vibecoded with what I know about ffmpeg. Hope this isn't just useless noise, you're the senior dev & I thought I'd give it a crack
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Just completed a big update to the ECForecastGrabber scripts. Version 3.5.0!
I modified all the warnings supported so far so that they recognize and display the new "Yellow, Orange and Red" warning levels. I also added support for Blizzard, Blowing Snow (Poudrerie), Cold (Froid), and Snow Squall (Bourrasques de neige).
It is free and open source so you can see the code and add it to your own website here if you want!
