#WordWeavers 10/22 - Does your MC enjoy gossip?

Well, let me tell you, Christophina got sick of celebrity gossip right quick when she started dating Ethan.

#WordWeavers 10/21 - Does your MC value family or friends more?

Family, absolutely. She's been let down by so many friends she's very leery of forming new friendships. It is, on a subliminal level, why she expects Ethan to leave her at any moment.

@adaddinsane I was in treatment for bipolar disorder for 4 months. One of those months was November. I tried to do NaNoWriMo AND work on another WIP AND work on handling my illness and something had to give. The NaNo project was a slow crawl and one night I wrote 14 words, couldn't do any more, lay down on the bed, and cried.

I talked to my psychiatrist and my counselor and they both agreed that I should maybe put writing on hold while I worked on my recovery and get back to it later. So I did.

#WordWeavers 10/20 - Share something you like and dislike about your first drafts.

The bulk of my novels are #NaNoWriMo drafts and all of the completed ones were a joy to write overall. I have so much fun doing them.

The editing is less fun because I have to confront all the continuity errors and the sentences that could be interoffice memos for The Department of Redundancy Department.

#WordWeavers 10/18 - How money-savvy is your MC?

Christophina was born into a solidly middle-class family but when her father died they got knocked down a few notches on the income scale. From that, she learned that what you have can be taken away at any time. Because of this, she is very thrifty, but she allows herself the occasional splurge. Though for her, a bottle of wine above 25 credits (about $10) is a splurge.

#WordWeavers 10/17 - If you could give life to one of your characters, who would it be and why?

I'd bring Christophina's father back from the dead. Bringing any character into this world is just too horrifying to contemplate.

@georgepenney
Free emergency healthcare does tend to create the 'frequent flier' class of patient. On one of my visits to the AU i overheard "Murphy's in again, I've put him in six"
"The usual cow kick?"
"Yep, ribs this time"
"Fine, he can wait until John's back. I can't do this again."

#WordWeavers 10/16 - Line day: share a description of a place in your WIP.

The rink is not large, but it’s enough to skate in circles or do a decent-sized figure eight. It’s surrounded by evergreen trees that smell real, and might actually be real. A pale, blue glow lights the ice up from within.

@nautilebleu I think the approach in translation was to invent new puns if the French ones didn't translate. The character names except for Asterix and Obelix were all puns of some kind in English. Panoramix in the English translation is called "Getafix", which is a little, um, odd when you think about it. ("Get a fix" means to get a dose of an addictive drug.)

#WordWeavers 10/15 - Do you make any effort to make or avoid alliteration?

I can't think of a single time I used alliteration without a school assignment involved. I find it childish. If it crops up in my writing, I purge it immediately.

#WordWeavers 10/11 - What sounds could help your MC feel better?

The music of The Infinite Suns.

#WordWeavers 10/10 - SC POV: What was the last thing you celebrated?

[This would be at the end of the first book, which is the one I'm currently working on.]

Ethan: "Would celebrating that Christophina came to Earth with me count? For actual formal celebrations, that would be the wrap party for the film. There was canny there, so Chris and I got spaced as space and devoured the catering. The strawberries tasted amazing! After a time, we went to my room and celebrated in our own way."

I meticulously went through Christophina's WIngs and jotted down notes on all the changes I'd need to make.

I just checked off every note. Now all I need to do is fix some formatting issues and then it'll be time to compile it for public consumption.

Yikes.

#WordWeavers 10/9 - What is the most cowardly thing your MC does?

Within the book I'm working on, probably hiding the fact that she was tricked into an interview with a sleazy tabloid. She rationalizes that she doesn't want to bother Ethan with it, since, in her estimation, it's not likely to see print. In actuality, she's afraid that he will leave her because he said he'll have nothing to do with "friends of the gutter press." When the interview is published, she fesses up.

#WordWeavers 10/8 - What is the bravest thing your MC does?

The time she presents a scan code for her portfolio to a high-end art gallery. She's so nervous about it she literally wears a mask (even after being ticketed for it), which gets her arrested.

@jeffpatterson11 I don't know if I quite agree with the assertion that cults (in the modern sense) are just baby religions. There are self-help cults that are rooted in secular notions, and some people argue that Amway functions as a cult.

2024-10-07

#WordWeavers 10/7 - How would you define the genre you write for a lay reader?

"Science fiction romance" is pretty self-explanatory, but I'll sometimes make it a little more specific by saying that it (the first book at least) is "Boy meets girl in SPACE."

2024-10-06

#WordWeavers 10/6 - Who is your weirdest character?

In the first book, definitely Mookie, whom Christophina knows through StarCity. Xenix may be a bit odd with his little green man persona, but Mookie has a wide collection of outlandish avatars that they change into and out of frequently. We see more of those avatars in the third book and even meet Mookie in person. As it turns out, they're just as eccentric in person as they are in StarCity.

2024-10-04

#WordWeavers 10/4 - Who among your characters is the most outgoing?

Ethan, without question. He likes meeting new people. His fans rave about how nice he is and how he'll often ask questions about them when he's signing autographs and such.
