Happy weekend..
@workingwithtype Thanks for making FontDrop! It's a great tool I just discovered. Needed to list all ligatures in a font and test other font features, and FontDrop! was by far the easiest. :)

... I really appreciate the coffee support for FontDrop! There are many ideas for an updated/next version of FontDrop! in my head, but it will probably need a some extra coffee push one day. ☕ ☕ ☕
I had a short talk with @rainerklute about how to use #OpenType #ligatures in an icon font for screen reader #accessibility in PDFs.

TIL that the most recent Firefox will now show the font licensing information in the inspector. Nice!

Introducing “Face with Tears of Joy: A Natural History of Emoji”!
‘😂’ explores where the world’s newest language came from, how it works, and where it is going. It will not help you master emoji — only a tween could do that, and they will be too busy texting — but it will provide an indispensable guide to the most vibrant part of modern language.
It will be published in July, and you can pre-order the paperback from all the usual places. Visit https://shadycharacters.co.uk/2025/04/face-with-tears-of-joy-revealed/ to learn more!

150 × as fast!
https://github.com/fonttools/fontspector
For those of us using fontbakery for font testing, it is worth noting that fontspector is nearly ready. Basically the same app, ported from Python to Rust by @simoncozens In my first rough test it is ~ 150 × as fast; a small font set that took about 15 minutes to run fontbakery on, now takes under 6 seconds for fontspector with the same tests.
@charakterziffer yes, I thought it is in the preferences as an option? But maybe I will move the content to my owen site one day too.
@charakterziffer ..idleness 🙄 ... I started on Medium many years ago and did not found the 'time' to move it back, no active descision so far...
Because this question has come up a few times, here is a way to use FontDrop! as an offline app.. https://viktornuebel.medium.com/use-fontdrop-offline-fc08a4a6fcb3
📝 The few articles I've published on Medium are now also linked on the website ➡️ https://viktornuebel.com/blog/
Today I learned about https://fontdrop.info by @workingwithtype
Which is a website that helps you analyze a #font without uploading it to a web server.
Cool tool. #TIL
Salou! 🎉 I just have published a new slab-serif #typeface full of character and with clear historical references: #Salou. The font is available in 9 weights and two styles and all in one #VariableFont ! A great challenging design process...
More information about the font can be found here: https://viktornuebel.com/retail-fonts/salou/
#newyear2025 .. let's start slow, let's hope for the best. #risoprint
