Back in 1980 I purchased the Telarc 1812 Overture LP. It has long been regarded as the ultimate test for setting up a record player, as the cannon shots were so dynamic they could literally shake the needle out of the groove.
This morning I was listening to the CD version which is no less impressive and it started a debate between my wife and I on who the best composer was.
She argued for Mozart.
I'm sorry, but if you haven't composed a piece that uses live artillery, you're just not in the upper tier of composers.
That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.
Still remember the greatest 4th of July fireworks show in San Jose where they performed the 1812 using real cannons during the show. It was awesome.
