#7string

Yesterday was #NewGuitarPickupDay! #Fishman Fluence Modern Stephan Carpenter signatures. I'm typically don't care for "signature" guitar gear for myself, nor do I really like the Deftones, but there's nothing externally indicating that besides the fact that they're glow in the dark!

They sound way better than my Alnico/Alnico experiment. Lots of EMG players will throw an Alnico 85 in the bridge for a different tone, but that trick doesn't work as well here.

Close up of guitar pickups on a multiscale 7 string guitar. The pickups are Fishman Fluence Modern Stephan Carpenter signatures, which have a glow in the dark strip following the classic Fluence design. The guitar body is green with a burl top, and features lots of nice wood textures and variations. The edge of the body is outlined in purple.

Also, thinking about getting a 7-string guitar and tune it in NST.
Any idea about this ?

I bought this guitar back in 2021 and finally got around to doing some work on it. I've had trouble with the pickups ever since it was new, but haven't really played the guitar much, so it sat largely untouched. I've been playing it a lot recently and still have problems so I decided to rewire it to eliminate that as a possible issue. Spoiler: the wiring ain't the issue here. I have yet another defective Fishman pickup.

Control cavity detail of an electric guitar. It features 3 main components, a box switch, and 2 push/pull potentiometers. On the left is the switch, the volume pot is above it just off center to the right, and the tone control is seen on the far right. An orange, square-ish .022 micro farad capacitor is seen coming off the tone control. A series of colored, twisted pair wires connects them all together into a circuit. The back of the guitar has a matte black finish. The background is black fabric.Zoomed out detail of the same control cavity from the previous image. This picture features a pile of colored wires next to the guitar body. These wires were part of the stock wiring job and were all trimmed as the length was unnecessary and created a "rats nest" in the cavity. A 9 volt battery door can be seen to the left of the control cavity.Image of the same control cavity before rewiring. All of the controls and wires have been pulled out of the guitar and are strewn everywhere. Lots of long, colored wires are seen connecting the electronics together. All of this mess used to be stuffed inside the small cavity. A soldering iron set to 703 degrees F can be seen in the top right of the image. Next to it is a brass sponge for cleaning the iron tip.Image of a 7 string, multiscale (fanned fret) Cort electric guitar. The body shape is very traditional, and features a burl top. It is green, with an outline of purple around the edges. The pickups and frets are all angled, due to the nature of a multiscale instrument. The electronics feature 2 knobs and one switch. One volume, one tone, and one pickup selector switch. 7 individual string bridges truncate the string terminations.

Recently moved to a new 7-string as my primary guitar. It has a marginally wider nut than my old 7.

Weirdly, the thing that's hardest to adapt is my muting technique - the fleshy bits of my fingers and my right hand palm are _just_ not quite touching the adjacent strings, and I get sympathetic notes sounding.

I'm selling my Schecter Reaper 7 Multi-scale. It's a lovely guitar, I just never really bonded with it. Listings are on a platform of your choice.

Boosts appreciated!

What string gauges are people using for 7-strings downtuned to C#? Can you go _too_thick?

I can't believe it's taken me eleven years to get around to buying #guitar hanger stands

#ElectricGuitar #GuitarsOfMastodon #SevenString #7String #music

Two impressively pointy electric guitars in stands that hold them up by the headstock.
On the left is a quite rare black Schechter JLV7-FR, a seven-string "flying vee" with very sharp points. On the left is a Chapman Ghostfret 7 Pro - an Explorer style guitar, finished with "unicorn" purple-to-teal fade. This one is also a seven-string guitar. Seven is there correct number of strings on a guitar. I will not be taking questions on this.
