Well, it seems that the light rail project will *never* make it to Tuggeranong and so I won’t have to go to the effort of erecting barricades on Athllon Drive and starting the revolution.
Damn, I had just got the plans for Madam Le Guillotine and it promised the ‘zip thud’ sound effect and everything …

Net debt, for example, has surged by $1.858 billion – a 25.5 per cent increase – from $7.3 billion in 2023-24 to $9.2 billion in 2024-25, as shown in Table 1. On average, net debt rose by more than $5 million a day, every day, including weekends and public holidays, including Easter and Christmas!

Mark Parton has posted on Facebook asking people to join the party. He says, rather than complaining, be part of the solution. While it is a CTA specifically for the Canberra Liberals, what Mark says has some truth. If you want something different, if you want something better for your community, you have to take action and get involved. It may be joining a party, it could be joining a community group, but it has to be something that's more than having an opinion online.
If only we had stuck with (and strengthened) decentralisation - there is no convincing need for offices to be in Civic. It just means that workers have to travel further for longer and pay higher parking costs to make rich people (who usually have a reserved car space they don’t even have to pay for) happy.
If the workers in those offices were decentralised to the town centres then closing or limiting the bridge over Lake Barely Tolerable would not be an issue. Travel times would be reduced, parking costs reduced and workers would be happier overall.
But no, we must make rich people happy.
@treleanor MyWay+ is not great. But this issue is not related to it.
This was the end result of extensive traffic modelling over months by Transport Canberra. I have seen heat maps of Canberra's road network regarding the bridge closure, which is high confidential. The maps showed it was going to be really painful on the roads.
TC already created multiple networks for testing in the model. As in they have scrapped multiple network proposals.

Ok #canberra I'm putting you on blast.
It has come to my attention that people are complaining on #reddit (of course) about the Garema Place uprages.
Too little too fucking late. The government did extensive consultation on the upgrades. Everyone had an opportunity to have input into the design. We knew what it would look like well before works started.
So I guess Mark Parton is going MAGA. #actpol #canberraliberals
The Australian Capital Territory (ACT)’s daliance with Restorative Justice has been reviewed … with outstanding results. The recidivism (ie, people who have committed a crime doing it again) is down and victim well being is up.
The ACT is showing that Restorative Justice gets much better results than ratcheting up harsher and harsher penalties … I’m looking at you the rest of Australia … especially Victoria … that have swallowed the headlines from the mostly breaking dead morons at Newscorp.
If you are one of the ones taking your 30 shekels from Murdoch, then it is time to sit down in the room of mirrors and have a good long and hard look at yourself.

It was the re-offending findings that were most startling: “All the persons responsible who completed a post-conference survey agreed or strongly agreed that, because of the conference, they were committed to not offending again; they understood how their actions affected people; and they felt that they could move forwards.
“Further, the recidivism analysis found that adult persons responsible who participated … had a lower rate of domestic or family violence reoffending than a matched control comparison group.”
One can only hope that such findings, so comprehensively made after an exhaustive study by Dr Lawler, Hayley Boxall and Christopher Dowling, are noticed by the law-and-order forces in our parliaments, who think that ever longer prison sentences are the only answer.

IMO, this is an open and shut case of ‘sack every cop who entered the bus with their weapons drawn’ and throw the book at them.
A clear message needs to be sent.
The ACT Police Chief has a habit of announcing a full investigation into something awful his cops done, then in the next breath saying that they did nothing wrong 🤔

Media Conference:
… I don’t think the individual Police officers are the problem. I think the larger organisation needs to be scrutinised further about its training, and what it deems ‘appropriate’.
The ‘active incident’ in a general area does not excuse the heavy-handling of what occurred on a peaceful, incident-absent bus.
As consequence, an innocent person was injured AND traumatised. This should be considered heavily.

Very disappointing: The racial profiling. The lack of due process. The lack of professionality. The lack of dignity and respect for the ‘suspected’.
What on earth is taught at Police Academies in Australia?
