Can anyone explain why #ATAGI isn't recommending further #COVID19 vaccinations for kids in #Australia beyond the initial 2-dose course which was likely >12 months ago? It has a distinct "the pandemic is over, go about your business" smell to it 🤔

Feeling somewhat abandoned by #ATAGI and their stupid blockade on #COVID19 boosters for non boomers. Almost every flu I've ever had has resulted in my being hospitalized, I have pre-emphysema and an exploding immune system. But because I'm under 65 I've been left to the wolves by that stupid science-immune committee because despite all the evidence to the contrary ATAGI want to treat this as a winter flu with yearly boosters.

Its time to #AbolishATAGI and devolve decision making to GPs and Pharmacists where it should always have been

My friend is travelling Australia to Europe in October. Her last Covid vaccination was Pfizer bivalent late February and current Australian recommendation is not to have another unless you are over 65. People who are knowledgeable about Covid, what would you do? #covid #ATAGI

Additional COVID-19 vaccine dose recommended for adults aged 75 and over.

The Australian Government has accepted advice from the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) that all adults aged 75 years and older should receive an additional 2023 COVID-19 vaccine dose if 6 months have passed since their last dose.

The Government has also accepted a recommendation from ATAGI that adults aged 65 to 74 years, or those aged 18 to 64 years who are severely immunocompromised, should consider an additional dose if six months have passed since their last dose, in consultation with their healthcare provider.

I can’t comment on ATAGI’s medical expertise but I can laud their political skills. Waiting to see if Australians start dying in large numbers again before making the bivalent vaccine available to the general population is cynical and irresponsible. @inthehands @HandPie @jupitersigh Australia similarly stupid, and now all the hospitals are full again. ATAGI dragging heels yet again to authorise vax that would have mitigated this at least partly, or possibly completely if they'd backed a different horse.

I've read a ton, and I'm putting my bets on Nuvaxovid now. I'm borderline immunocompromised so was able to get my 5th shot a few weeks back (2nd Novavax).

It's looking like protein subunit vaccines just work better for this kind of disease, look at Cuba. 3rd worst death rate in the world during their worst wave pre-vax, but they vaxxed everyone with their own protein subunit vaccines from age 2 upwards and they haven't had a covid death since August 22nd.
