"Boys Will Be Boys"

Wonder Bar (1934) starring Al Jolson, May Francis + Dolores Del Rio was a pre-code film released just before the Motion Picture Production Code censorship guidelines (known as the Hays Code) were adaped more rigorously. This scene in particular is often sited as an example of the 'Pansy Craze' - a term coined in 1994 - referring to a period in the late 1920s + early 30s when homosexual visibility in stage + film was increasing.

๐ŸŽน 1927. The Jazz Singer, the first sound blockbuster, is a maudlin, cruel and mother-fixated melodrama about ethnicity, assimilation and the dreary exigencies of capitalism (also so much terrible dancing).
