There is growing evidence IMHO for this (/waves arms about) being an #Ancestorsimulation.
Evidence such as the Binary Planck scale on micro level, Goldilocks constants/parameters.
And the one that shifts the probability to nearly 1 is the advent of #AI (I should have kept THAT paper).
Hoffman is doing the right thing IMHO. The "establishment" has been smelling their farts for too long. It's worthwhile to look at our qualia from the sensorium in the light of information theory to promote fresh perspectives.
Humans take in only about 0.3% of the electromagnetic spectrum. We are practically blind. The one thing we are good for is chasing our food on the African Savannah and it's going to take us a while to step up from that 2.5D, nearly dark, sensory sack. Biologically speaking.

I think it's worthwhile to deconstruct everything to information theory.
...and I haven't even brought in #quantum mechanics that grabs the entire drawer of spanners and throws that into the works.
But I found your critique of Hoffman illuminating, I'll read some of the critique of his postulate.
Edit: Hoffman specifically states that "we are looking at everything through VR glasses at Icons" so it's not a stretch to say that he claims it's all an illusion, especially qualified as a mental model "illusion"
