‘…what has all of this to do with a Russian doll? When I put paint on a canvas to create a painting, it is a bit like assembling a Russian doll; the paint both hides and reveals. What it hides or reveals about me, the person, the artist, is by default a certain existential awareness. With an aura of quietness, the house sits in the lee of a mountain above the sea. Large windows caressed by a sea and sky coloured by ever-changing arrays of magical blues/greys often burned into silvers, golds & magenta by the setting sun. A drawing from 30 years ago done while living in Barcelona. I found miniature traditional farmhouse chairs at a store in the market La Boqueria. The market, in the centre of Barcelona, sold mainly food. It was my daily route from home to the studio. I couldn't resist the lovely little chairs that reminded me of Van Gogh's bedroom chair.
