Fans of #OurFlagMeansDeath will (I hope!) recognise this scene. The design is drawn directly from a household shrine from Pompeii (see second image).

The online #OFMD community are to thank for the Latin - not a literal translation of Lucius' words, but something that worked as a Latin phrase while maintaining the tone and meaning of the original.

A canvas board painted to look like stone or plaster, with dirt and cracks. Three figures occupy the centre. On the left, Stede Bonnet, in "safari" style outfit, stands with right knee bent and foot slightly in front of the left. His right hand is on his hip, his left hand is raised near his head and he holds a large leaf in it. On the right, Blackbeard mirrors his pose, dressed in black leather trousers, purple crop top, black cravat, black fingerless gloves and knee brace. Between them stands Lucius, wearing wide grey trousers, beige striped shirt and red scarf. He holds a long stick with a snake wrapped around it. Underneath them all is a large dark blue snake whose body curves up and down, and loosely painted grass. Text above them reads, "Di magni, hoc vere fit!" Around the edge of the board is rope, and where it meets the edge the board is stained deep red.
