Even though the legal and constitutional arguments advanced by Texas are complete bunk justices Alito, Thomas, Gorsuch, and Kavanaugh dissented. A remarkable institution, the Supreme Court.

Abbott and today’s reactionary Right adopt these neo-confederate arguments. In a way, they are just explicitly emphasizing the tradition in which their political project stands, as they are once again defying the federal government and deploying “states’ rights” in order to justify inhumane brutality in service of upholding white nationalist domination.

MAGA echoing settler colonial TV in Israel: Bergquam referred to the aid volunteers as “leftists aiding and abetting cartel members at their camp and inviting an invasion into this country.” Bergquam went on to tell his viewers that the aid camp, which has shelter and food, was a “guerilla [sic] camp and frontline of the invasion.” Bergquam also called them “enemies within this country” and “pure evil.”
Bergquam has been targeting humanitarian aid workers for years. This type of hate speech has deadly, real-world consequences, inciting people to arm themselves and show up at the camp and possibly attack volunteers or migrants.

Israel is in a nonstop state of conflict largely because it is such an artificial creation. Most states emerge in a more organic way out of the geographical, political and cultural circumstances of the land and the people in their unique slice of spacetime. Israel emerged because some people who didn’t live anywhere near the land of Palestine got some narratives in their heads involving an ancient religion and its adherents, and dropped a newly created country on top of a civilization that already existed there which had emerged organically out of the circumstances of the region.

One thing I find particularly disturbing is how in one breath our leaders demonise refugees, and in the next breath, they support a country that is forcing people to become refugees. If anything shows how utterly ridiculous our leaders are, it’s this.
The US state department is saying there should be no mass displacement of Palestinians and singling out one or two Israeli politicians like Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben Gvir for condemnation. This is to create the impression that mass displacement is a fringe view in Israel when it’s clearly policy and it’s backed by 70% of Israelis.
