parents: you're not autistic/ADHD, we would have noticed

really? you seriously missed the:

* not answering teachers when my name is called

* annoying stimming behaviors

* increasing anti-social behavior

* my strange hatred of warning labels and clocks

* my obsessive interest in things like weather, Harry Potter, watching movies over and over again

* anxiety that got exponentially worse in the private Christian school

* how much I hated going to school

* my constant dissociative stare at nothing

* how i hated doing things that weren't fun

* my poor social skills

* how I hate going to places I'm not familiar with

* how much I hate loud noises like vacuums and lawn-mowers

* how many of my least favorite foods were a texture issue

* how I cannot keep a job because customer service makes me want to literally die

seriously?

you missed all that?

or is the more likely case that you preferred to ignore it and say I was just a brat?

Are there any other autistics who watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer in their teens and related to her not fitting in and having to hide big parts of her life without really knowing why?

"You work so hard all day
To be like other girls
To fit in in this glittering world"

(From "Something to sing about", musical episode)

There is no epidemic of #autism. It’s an epidemic of need. The main reason we are finding more autism is simple: Clinicians are getting better at spotting what was always there. #Women in adult settings often come to diagnosis later in life, frequently as mothers and grandmothers. This suggests many females still escape childhood diagnosis today. statnews.com/2023/03/23/autism
