Who owns the information about research?
Open science needs open research information as part of a shared knowledge commons.
Together with Dutch Barcelona Declaration signatories, we analysed with @MsPhelps 14 use cases and developed the ORI Monitoring Framework to identify gaps in metadata quality across CRISsystems @euroCRIS , @OpenAlex and @OpenAIREGraph

Pleased to join the Joint Task Force on Negotiating Openness of Publication Metadata, launched by Barcelona Declaration and OA2020.
Publication metadata locked behind paywalls limits transparency and academic sovereignty. Our task force will develop practical negotiation frameworks and tools to embed metadata openness in publisher agreements.
Co-chaired by Miranda Bennett and Ludo Waltman.

1/2 Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam will end the subscription to Clarivate's Web of Science as of 1 January 2026. Because of rising costs, but most importantly the university is committed to the use of open, transparent, and reusable research information. This choice is in line with the Barcelona Declaration on open research information, which was signed by @vuamsterdam in 2024.

"Discontinuing Web of Science is a logical step that fits in with the UU vision on #OpenScience. Closed commercial databases, such as Web of Science, are not in line with our desire to work with open research information as much as possible. The UU signed the #BarcelonaDeclaration in 2024 to this effect. The use of Journal Impact Factors [#JIFs] is also not in line with our vision of Open Science…With the funds freed up by not renewing the licence, we will continue to invest in open source research and infrastructure."
