Pirates on Zhongshan

Following up on our recent completion of its second contract, we dove into the final contract option in the Mercenaries box set: Pirate Invasion. For this one we enlisted Stef to play the pirates so that my daughter and I could team up.

If you want to read about our previous contracts, you can read Violence on Zhonghsan and Escalation on Zhongshan.

Starting Forces

Jade Tiger Mercenaries

The Jade Tiger Mercenaries, former members of Clan Jade Falcon, had a rough time in their second contract. Jade’s Fire Falcon was left completely destroyed, and their reputation hurt by being unable to accomplish the Pearl Dragon Mining Corporation’s objectives. Luckily, they still had enough resources to buy a replacement for the Fire Falcon and prepare for another contract.

  • Jade (3/4) in a Starslayer STY-4C
  • Mateo (3/4) in a Kit Fox A

The emergency contract that they were granted to face off against the pirates offered the following terms for the month:

  • Base Pay: 100%
  • Transportation: N/A
  • Support: 0%
  • Salvage: 100%
  • Command: Independent

Kate’s Cutlasses

Kate’s Cutlasses have expanded their roster and now have three MechWarriors and ‘Mechs. Their war chest and reputation are in good shape after successfully completing two contracts for the Great Eagle AgroWorks Union.

  • Kate Morán (3/4) in a Shadow Cat Prime
  • Jess Becker (3/4) in an UrbanMech UM-R80
  • Anton (3/5) in an Ostsol OTL-8E

The emergency contract that the Cutlasses signed on to has the same terms as the one for the Jade Tigers.

Roshak Talons

The pirate force attacking Zhongshan consisted of three ‘Mechs, but they were dangerous Clan machines. Since I was playing with my daughter and we wanted to shift things a bit in our favor, we left the pirates at baseline skills rather than giving them any advances.

  • Pirate (4/5) in a Bane
  • Pirate (4/5) in a Phoenix Hawk IIC
  • Pirate (4/5) in a Grizzly

Contract Log

October 3151

A pirate force attacked Zhongshan at the beginning of the month and shattered the relative peace that we had enjoyed during the month of September. The two mercenary units operating near Zuhai worked together to intercept the pirate BattleMechs as they approached the city and, through a show of force, convinced the pirates that they should leave Zhongshan.

Zuhai Public News Network, 14 October 3151

The only track for this contract was a stand up fight against the pirates. My daughter and I chose to engage the pirates outside of the city. With the 3,000 BV limit for Scale 1, we were limited in what we could deploy. I took my Ostsol and UrbanMech, and my daughter chose to use her Starslayer. Both of us fell well below the BV limit, but our remaining ‘Mechs wouldn’t fit, so we took a lot of support assets: a Galleon, a Von Luckner, a Demolisher, a Schrek, and an airstrike.

As the pirates advanced, the Bane and Grizzly moved to take up a firing position on a hill while the Phoenix Hawk IIC pushed forward. Anton in his Ostsol ran towards the hill while Jess’s UrbanMech and Jade’s Starslayer moved to block the Phoenix Hawk IIC.

The Jade Tigers and Cutlasses confront the pirate force

Jade blasted through the Phoenix Hawk IIC’s armor with one of her heavy lasers and ignited multiple ammo bins in its torso. That knocked out the pirate, and then the Jess took an aimed shot at its head with her PPC to ensure that the pirate’s days of crime were over.

Jade takes down the Phoenix Hawk IIC

Meanwhile, the Ostsol was taking a beating against the Bane and Grizzly. Anton’s ‘Mech had also taken two AC/2 hits to the head, so he was in trouble. Luckily, the Starslayer and UrbanMech were able to join that fight before it was lost. Again Jade melted through a target’s armor and ignited its ammunition. That left the Bane crippled and only the Grizzly in good shape for the pirates.

Anton and Jade desperately try to take down the Bane

With the slow tanks now getting in range, the pirates in the Grizzly and crippled Bane negotiated their withdrawal. Zhongshan had been saved!

End of Contract

The retreat of the pirates off of Zhongshan left the world in a state of peace again. With the situation in the Hinterlands deteriorating, the feuding forces seem to have accepted that they need to resolve their issues through negotiation.

That has left both Kate’s Cutlasses and the Jade Tigers free to seek out contracts elsewhere in the Hinterlands. The Jade Tigers claimed the Phoenix Hawk IIC as salvage, and the Cutlasses purchased a Caesar CES-5R. That meant that each unit could potentially take a Scale 2 contract if we decide to keep playing with these units.

Solaris VII Battle Report: Marchetti vs Li

https://youtu.be/Ue71CxiDKPg

The eighth match of the 3059 Medium Class Invitational on Solaris VII features Ali Marchetti and Marcus Li. They are both replacement MechWarriors taking the place of stablemates whose lives were tragically lost during the course of the Invitational.

The Contestants

Lion City Stables

Ali Marchetti (3/3)

Griffin GRF-3M (Braun)

Ali Marchetti is stepping in to replace Lisbeth Braun following the loss of her life during match six. She’s piloting the same customized Griffin that Braun had used. It is built off of a Griffin GRF-3M but replaces the LRM launcher with three SRM 6 launchers. That gives her the ability to hit hard up close, especially once her ER PPC has opened holes in her opponent’s armor.

Tandrek Stables

Marcus Li (3/3)

Blackjack BJ-3 (Volkov)

Marcus Li is the replacement for Eva Volkov who passed away from injuries during match five. The Blackjack from Tandrek Stables that he’s piloting is a customized BJ-3. It replaces two of the medium lasers with extended range models and then is equipped with triple-strength myomer. He’ll be looking to get the ‘Mech hot and then take advantage of its increased speed and ability to deliver powerful kicks.

The Match

At the start of the match, the arena’s wall number two was up and blocking line of sight between the contestants. Li moved towards one end while Marchetti ran towards the center of Steiner Stadium. Then as Marchetti ran around the end of the wall, Li backed away to keep some space open between them.

Marchetti and Li open fire for the first time in the match

Li came out ahead in the first exchange of fire. He scored hits with a PPC and two of his medium lasers, and Marchetti was only able to hit back with 4 SRM warheads. That burst also built up enough heat to activate his Blackhack’s triple-strength myomer.

Wall number two dropping back down then opened up more room to maneuver. Li ran towards the arena edge with Marchetti in pursuit. As they fired at each other again, things continued to go Li’s way. He hit Marchetti’s Griffin in the face with his PPC and melted some armor with one of his lasers. Everything she fired back missed.

Wall number three then came up and separated the two warriors. Li ran out of that pocket, but Marchetti was quick to pursue him. This exchange of fire went better for Marchetti. Her ER PPC got a solid hit to Li’s left arm and damaged one of his medium lasers. Then three SRMs chipped away some more armor across the Blackjack. In return, Li only hit with two of his medium lasers.

Li then ran towards the center of the arena, but this time Marchetti was able to get to point-blank range on his right side. Li got a glancing hit with one of his PPCs and a hit with one laser, and Marchetti missed with everything again. Frustrated by her targeting system, Marchetti kicked out at the Blackjack and mangled the armor on its right leg.

Marchetti struggles to hit with her weapons, but lands a powerful kick

Li then ran back towards the arena’s edge, but again Marchetti was in pursuit and stuck right next to him. As they exchanged fire, Li hit with a laser, and Marchetti scored a glancing hit with her ER PPC and hits with ten SRMs. The missiles finished off the Blackjack’s left arm and one blasted away armor from its head. They then kicked out at each other. Li scored a glancing hit to the Griffin’s left leg, and the Marchetti’s kick hit the Blackjack’s left leg too. That brawl left Li in worse shape and his Blackjack fell to the arena’s floor.

Unsure which way Li would bolt after standing, Marchetti backed away. Li then ran straight up to her once he got his Blackjack back on its feet. Marchetti again missed with everything as Li closed the distance. He only scored glancing hits with his PPC and one laser. Then they both kicked out again and hit each other’s left legs. Unfortunately for Li, the damage from Marchetti’s kick was enough to shatter his Blackjack’s skeleton and take him down.

Not willing to give up, Li then propped up his Blackjack and fired his two torso lasers at Marchetti. Her retaliation was brutal with her ER PPC eating into the Blackjack’s torso to destroy its gyroscope and her launchers scoring 15 SRM hits that took off the Blackjack’s other arm. With a shattered gyroscope and only one limb left, Li then powered down to give Marchetti a win.

Marchetti ensures that Li stays down

The Outcome

With Marchetti’s victory, Lion City Stables are finishing the open rounds of the Invitational with a 2-2 record. That should mean that she is safely into the semifinal matches.

On the other hand, Tandrek Stables is sitting at a 0-3 record. Their only chance to avoid being eliminated from the semi-finals is a win over Zahra Al-Amin of Silver Dragons Stables when her and Marcus Li face off in the final open round match.

Escalation on Zhongshan

After a long break to play other games, my daughter and I have finished our second set of contracts using the Mercenaries box set. We played using the Street War option for continuing the campaign on Zhongshan.

If you want to review how the first contract went, read Violence on Zhongshan.

Forces

Jade Tiger Mercenaries

Jade Tigers (July 3151)

The Jade Tiger Mercenaries are former members of Clan Jade Falcon who became mercenaries after they were abandoned by Khan Malvina Hazen and the rest of their Clan. With one contract now completed, they are both more skilled than when they started out.

  • Jade (3/4) in a Fire Falcon T
  • Mateo (3/4) in a Kit Fox A

While their first contract with the Pearl Dragon Mining Corporation was not as successful as hoped, the corporation has hired them to serve on Zhongshan for another 3 months.

  • Base Pay: 100%
  • Transportation: N/A
  • Support: 40%
  • Salvage: 30%
  • Command: Liaison

Kate’s Cutlasses

Kate’s Cutlasses (July3151)

Kate’s Cutlasses are a pair of MechWarriors who decided to become mercenaries in the chaos of the Hinterlands. Both of them have improved their Gunnery skill as a result of their experiences fighting on Zhongshan.

  • Kate Morán (3/4) in a Shadow Cat Prime
  • Jess Becker (3/4) in an UrbanMech UM-R80

With the Jade Tigers still on Zhongshan, Kate’s Cutlasses have signed another contract with the Great Eagle AgroWorks Union to continue defending their facilities and workers. With no travel needed, the Union offered a 300 SP bonus for signing on to the contract.

  • Base Pay: 110%
  • Transportation: N/A
  • Support: 60%
  • Salvage: 10%
  • Command: Liaison
  • Bonus: 300 SP

Kate’s Cutlasses stop an advance into Zuhai by the Jade Tigers

The situation here on Zhongshan has taken a turn for the worse. While the fighting over the past few months has been located in the agricultural regions, today the Jade Tiger mercenaries advanced into the city of Zuhai. The resulting battle was quick with limited damage, but this move into urban combat represents a dangerous escalation in the violence plaguing our world.

Zuhai Public News Network, 14 July 3151

Our first track of this contract was an Objective Raid. The Jade Tigers were on the attack and aiming to steal supplies from a Great Eagle office within the city. Unfortunately for them, their Kit Fox lost its leg to a gauss slug from Kate’s Shadow Cat. With it unable to move and the Fire Falcon lacking hands, the Jade Tigers withdrew from the city.

The complete failure of their objective raid meant that the Jade Tigers earned no combat pay for the month. They received their base pay of 500 SP and then used that all for maintenance. They then had to pay 90 SP for repairs with their employer only covering 36 SP of that. That left them with 54 SP less in their war chest than the month before.

Kate’s Cutlasses earned 550 SP for their base pay plus 750 SP for completing all objectives on their mission. Then they had to spend 500 SP for regular maintenance and 135 SP for repairs. Their support terms meant that the Union covered 81 SP of those repair costs though. That left the unit up 746 SP for the month. An Ostsol OTL-8E was available on the market, so Kate picked that up for 1,552 SP and hired a new MechWarrior, Anton, to pilot it.

An Ostsol joins Kate’s Cutlasses

August 3151

Kate’s Cutlasses and the Jade Tigers battle near Zuhai’s HPG station

Fighting moved into the city of Zuhai again today. The Jade Tiger mercenaries took up position near the city’s HPG station. While the HPG itself has been nonfunctional for about two decades, the facility is still an important hub for worldwide communications and computer networks on Zhongshan. In response to this advance into the city, Kate’s Cutlasses went on the attack and pushed the Jade Tigers out of the area.

Zuhai Public News Network, 23 August 3151

The next track in our campaign was Defend. The Jade Tigers would be defending the mapsheet with Kate’s Cutlasses attacking. Both forces wanted to control the center of the battlefield. The battle turned against the Jade Tigers when a Manticore Tank destroyed the left torso of Jade’s Fire Falcon. Then moments later, it was completely destroyed and their Kit Fox was crippled as well. With that much damage to their hardware, the Jade Tigers withdrew, giving Kate’s Cutlasses another victory.

The Jade Tigers received 500 SP in base pay and 250 SP in combat pay. They had to pay 500 SP in maintenance plus 130 SP for repairs. The Pearl Dragon Mining Corporation covered 52 SP of those repairs. The bigger loss was that Jade’s Fire Falcon was completely destroyed. Luckily, a Starslayer STY-4C was available to purchase, so Jade bought that for herself for 2,218 SP.

The Cutlasses were paid 550 SP for their base pay plus 750 SP for completing all of their mission objectives. They had to pay 500 SP for maintenance plus 30 SP for repairs (with 18 SP of that covered by support terms). That gave them a profit of 788 SP for the month.

September 3151

The residents of Zuhai have breathed a collective sigh of relief thanks to the apparent end, or at least pause, in the fighting between the Jade Tiger and Kate’s Cutlasses mercenary units since late August. This break has allowed for our world’s citizens to begin to repair the damage caused by the fighting, and life feels like it is return…

Zuhai Public News Network, 30 September 3151

With Kate’s Cutlasses winning the first two tracks, there was no track for the third month of our contracts.

With no combat during the month, the Jade Tigers were paid 500 SP and used all of that to cover their monthly maintenance costs. Their war chest was quite low after this contract.

Kate’s Cutlasses meanwhile earned 550 SP in base pay and paid 500 SP for maintenance. At the end of the contract, they also paid 200 SP to improve Anton’s Gunnery skill.

End of Contract

One moment, we have breaking news coming in…

It seems that an unidentified military DropShip has been detected moving towards Zhongshan, and it is not responding to communication attempts.

It seems our world’s troubles are not yet over.

Zuhai Public News Network, 30 September 3151

With their two victories, Kate’s Cutlasses was the victor for this batch of fighting. The Jade Tigers have taken a beating and accomplished little.

At the conclusion of their contracts, a presumably hostile force was detected moving toward Zhongshan. Seeing an invasion or pirate raid as a danger to both of their interests, the Great Eagle AgroWorks Union and Pearl Dragon Mining Corporation came to an agreement. Both would support extending their current contracts with their mercenaries in order to have them defend the world against these new invaders.

Solaris VII Battle Report: Al-Amin vs Dewana

https://youtu.be/-0_ddDDg6Go

The seventh match of the 3059 Medium Class Invitational on Solaris VII sees Zahra Al-Amin challenging the undefeated Dayajeet Dewana in Steiner Stadium.

The Contestants

Silver Dragons Stables

Zahra Al-Amin (3/4)

Phoenix Hawk PXH-3K (Al-Amin)

Zahra Al-Amin from the Draconis Combine-aligned Silver Dragons Stables has yet to win a match in the Invitational. So far she has faced Braun and Bellerose and was defeated by both of them, so she is hoping to break that streak in this match. She is piloting a customized Phoenix Hawk that has a mix of lasers, a targeting computer, and a supercharger.

Galahad Stables

Dayajeet Dewana (2/2)

Hunchback HBK-5M (Dewana)

Dayajeet Dewana, like all MechWarriors from Galahad Stables, aspires to fight with honor and aspire to the chivalric ideals of Captain-General Thomas Marik. His Hunchback has had a few heat sinks removed in order to allow for it to carry experimental pulse lasers and two full tons of ammunition for his big autocannon. He has been undefeated so far in the Invitational, and he is aiming to maintain that and stay tied with Arnie Bellerose.

The Match

The initial arena setup had the walls in front of both starting positions up. As the fight started, both MechWarriors moved towards one side of the stadium. Then as they emerged from behind the walls, Al-Amin engaged her Phoenix Hawk’s supercharger and raced to close the distance with Dewana. They exchanged fire at just 90 meters. Dewana’s autocannon burst went wide, but both of his medium pulse lasers melted into the Phoenix Hawk’s armor. Then Al-Amin’s return fire scored hits to the Hunchback’s left arm, center torso, and head.

Al-Amin and Dewana exchange fire

After that Al-Amin raced her Phoenix Hawk behind Dewana’s Hunchback, and dazed by the hit, he was unable to maneuver at all. Not wasting any opportunity, she aimed her lasers at the Hunchback’s back and blasted through its armor and into its internals. The assault left Dewana’s Hunchback with a destroyed gyroscope, damaged heat shielding on its fusion engine, and a busted autocannon.

Al-Amin aims her lasers at the back of Dewana’s Hunchback

With Dewana still unconscious and the Hunchback unable to stand back up, the fight was called for Al-Amin.

Dewana’s Hunchback lays on the ground with a broken gyroscope

The Outcome

With her quick, decisive victory, Zahra Al-Amin has ensured she is no longer sitting at the bottom of the rankings. He final match will be against Marcus Li of Tandrek Stables.

Meanwhile, Dayajeet Dewana’s poor performance in this fight has him knocked out of the first place tie. He still has a chance to get back into the lead with his next match though. If he can defeat Arnie Bellerose, their records will be tied, but the head-to-head win would still put Dewana in first place.

Trial of Possession: Wolf vs Sea Fox

https://youtu.be/qlSU6PLzjkQ

As the year 3151 dawned, Clan Wolf, under the command of Khan Alaric Ward, began its assault on Terra. The forces of the Republic of the Sphere fought valiantly, but after Clan Jade Falcon joined the fight alongside Clan Wolf, there was little chance for a Republic victory. In April 3151, Devlin Stone surrendered and dissolved the Republic. With Terra under Clan control, Khans Alaric Ward and Malvina Hazen arranged to fight a trial to determine which of their Clans would rise to the position of ilClan. After a brutal and fiery battle, Alaric Ward’s Clan Wolf emerged as the victors. Clan Wolf became the ilClan foretold by Nicholas Kerensky, and Alaric Ward gained the title of ilKhan.

Unfortunately for him, the fighting against both the Republic of the Sphere and Clan Jade Falcon had left his forces badly depleted. In order to resupply and prepare to defend his new capital world, he needed to negotiate with Clan Sea Fox to acquire much-needed supplies. As one would expect with the Clans, these negotiations often involved combat trials to determine the final terms.

This battle is one such trial between Clans Wolf and Sea Fox. A star of warriors from each Clan will fight an honorable battle to determine the cost that the ilKhan must pay in order to import the material his new Star League desperately needs.

The Forces

Clan Wolf

The Clan Wolf star participating in the trial consists of an Orion C, a Dominator, a Stormwolf Prime, an Ice Ferret D, and an Adder A. All have 3/4 skills.

Clan Sea Fox

The Clan Sea Fox star consists of a Warhammer IIC 8, a Summoner AA, an Ebon Jaguar D, a Mad Dog T, and a Grendel T. All five MechWarriors have 3/4 skills.

The Battle

Adder vs Grendel

The Grendel challenged the Adder. The Adder took up position in a heavy wood while the Grendel jumped into its own woods. In the first exchange of fire, the Grendel melted armor from the Adder’s right leg with its large pulse laser while the Adder had no chance to hit. While the Adder stayed in the relative safety of its woods, the Grendel jumped to its right side. The Adder hit the Grendel with everything buts its flamer, but the Grendel’s return fire finished taking off the Adder’s leg.

The Adder tried to stand back up, but fell again. The MechWarrior blacked out from their injuries, but soon began to stir. Looking to finish off its opponent, the Grendel moved behind the Adder and opened fire. The light ‘Mech was left entirely destroyed, but its final flight of missiles blasted away more of the Grendel’s armor.

Ice Ferret vs Mad Dog

The Mad Dog issued a challenge to the Ice Ferret. Its initial LRM and large laser shots missed their target while the Ice Ferret hit back with its accurate pulse lasers. The next exchange of fire went better for the Mad Dog with it only taking one pulse laser hit while knocking the Ice Ferret off of its feet.

When the Ice Ferret got back up and continued its pursuit, the Mad Dog stuggled to keep the faster ‘Mech from getting behind it. As it attempted to run away, it was forced to use only one arm’s lasers to fire back while the Ice Ferret had easy shots into its back with its own pulse lasers. Eventually it was able to get its back to the battlefield’s edge, and it did so just in time as one of the Ice Ferret’s pulse lasers destroyed its hip and upper leg actuator.

The Mad Dog then stood still while the Ice Ferret ran back and forth in front of it. They blasted away at each other until a salvo from the Mad Dog damaged the Ice Ferret’s gyro and knocked out its MechWarrior.

After a brief moment, the Ice Ferret got back to its feet, and the two MechWarriors exchanged a final volley. The laser beams and missiles of that volley saw both OmniMechs lose their engines.

Stormwolf vs Warhammer IIC

The Stormwolf challenged the Warhammer IIC. While outgunned and out massed, the Clan Wolf MechWarrior was confident that their reflective armor and mobility would let them hold their own against the assault ‘Mech. Using its MASC, supercharger, and jump jets, the Stormwolf did its best to be a difficult target while chipping away at the Warhammer’s armor with its rotary autocannon and laser. Eventually the Stormwolf suffered a jam and needed to work on unjamming its primary weapon, but the Warhammer IIC wasn’t able to capitalize on that. Despite taking little damage, the Stormwolf was forced to recognize that it lacked enough remaining ammo for its autocannon to make it through the Warhammer IIC’s thick armor. The MechWarriors accepted a draw for their duel.

Dominator vs Summoner

The Summoner issued a challenge against the Dominator. In their first exchange of fire, the Summoner hit the Dominator’s head with its large pulse laser and then was knocked off its own feet by the Dominator’s PPC and ER large laser. After getting back up, the Dominator hit it again with both of its big energy weapons. The Summoner hit back with its gauss rifle, then its ER pulse laser hit the Dominator’s head again to end the duel.

Orion vs Ebon Jaguar

The Orion challenged the Ebon Jaguar. While the Orion stood relatively still, the Ebon Jaguar ran towards it. They exchanged devastating volleys of fire until they were standing at point blank range. The Orion lost its gauss rifle to damage in their final exchange of fire, but the Ebon Jaguar suffered an ammo explosion and enough engine damage that it was rendered inoperable.

Orion vs Grendel

With both of their original opponents destroyed, the Orion and Grendel challenged one another. The Grendel used its mobility to be a difficult target, but the Orion’s thick armor and accurate ER pulse lasers kept the fight closely matched. The Grendel lost its left arm in one exchange of fire, but then the Orion’s streak LRMs damaged its engine shielding enough that the Grendel shut down to cool off. While the Orion’s MechWarrior could have finished off the Grendel as it stood immobile, instead he recognized that his battered Orion and the Stormwolf with its nearly depleted ammunition had little chance of finishing off both the Summoner and Warhammer IIC. Instead, he requested hegira to preserve what was left of his star.

The Results

Clan Sea Fox won the trial, so the ilKhan would need to pay Clan Sea Fox’s full asking price for this batch of supplies.

Violence on Zhongshan

After getting both Hot Spots: Hinterlands and the Mercenaries box set, I started a campaign with my daughter. I decided to use the campaign rules from Hinterlands but start with the contract set on Zhongshan from the box set.

Starting Forces

Jade Tiger Mercenaries

The Jade Tiger Mercenaries are former members of Clan Jade Falcon who have decided to strike out on their own after being left behind by Khan Malvina Hazen when she launched her assault towards Terra.

  • Jade (4/4) in a Fire Falcon T
  • Mateo (4/4) in a Kit Fox A

The Jade Tigers have signed their first contract with the Pearl Dragon Mining Corporation to raid the Great Eagle AgroWorks on Zhongshan in order to encourage the workers union to accept corporate ownership of the facilities. Jade negotiated for the corporation to pay 25% of their transportation costs before accepting the offer.

  • Base Pay: 100%
  • Transportation: 25%
  • Support: 0%
  • Salvage: 70%
  • Command: Liaison

Kate’s Cutlasses

Kate’s Cutlasses are a pair of MechWarriors who have decided to see if they can make it on their own as independent mercenaries.

  • Kate Morán (4/4) in a Shadow Cat Prime
  • Jess Becker (4/4) in an UrbanMech UM-R80

Kate and Jess signed a contract with the Great Eagle AgroWorks Union on the planet of Zhongshan. With the sudden departure of Clan Jade Falcon forces, the Union was concerned about attacks on their facility and wanted to hire a garrison. Kate negotiated better support for repairs in exchange for a reduction in salvage rights.

  • Base Pay: 100%
  • Transportation: 100%
  • Support: 40%
  • Salvage: 30%
  • Command: Liaison

Contract Log

April 3151

Raiders attacked a Great Eagle AgroWorks maintenance facility yesterday. Assording to eyewitness accounts, the facility was bravely defended by two mercenary warriors, but the primary supply warehouse was still a total loss after it was struck by an AeroSpace bombing run. A representative from the AgroWorks Union has assured ZPNN that they are confident in the ability of their garrison to repel any future attacks.

Zuhai Public News Network, 24 April 3151

Our first track was a Strike. The Jade Tigers needed to identify and destroy a building with Kate’s Cutlasses working to defend it. The high speed of the Jade Tigers allowed them to quickly identify the correct target and then a heavy bombing reduced the building to rubble. Despite the destruction of the building, Kate’s Cutlasses came out ahead in the battle thanks to crippling Jade’s Fire Falcon after she had scanned the building.

The Jade Tigers had monthly maintenance covered by their base pay, received 250 SP in combat pay, and had to spend 165 SP on repairs.

Kate’s Cutlasses had monthly maintenance covered by their base pay, received 750 SP in combat pay, and had to spend 74 SP on repairs in addition to the 49 SP of repair costs covered by their contract.

May 3151

The Jade Tiger mercenary force launched another attack on Great Eagle AgroWorks this morning. In a lightning raid, the attackers seized a container of agricultural supplies and then escaped. The garrisoning mercenaries chased the raiders off before more could be stolen, but were unable to destroy or capture any of the Jade Tigers. While a representative from the AgroWorks Union assured ZPNN that the stolen supplies were not essential to their operations, inside sources expressed worry that the AgroWorks were no longer a safe place to work with many laborers seeking other options.

Zuhai Public News Network, 18 May 3151

Our track for the second month was an Objective Raid. This time, the Jade Tigers came out ahead by seizing one component and then escaping before Kate’s Cutlasses could destroy either of them.

The Jade Tigers had monthly maintenance covered by their base pay, received 750 SP in combat pay, and had to spend 110 SP on repairs.

Kate’s Cutlasses had monthly maintenance covered by their base pay, received 250 SP in combat pay, and then had to spend 74 SP on repairs in addition to the 49 SP of repair costs covered by their contract.

June 3151

In another daring raid, the Jade Tigers have destroyed another Great Eagle AgroWorks facility. A representative from the AgroWorks Union assured ZPNN that the raiding forces were left crippled by the fighting and expressed confidence that whoever hired the mercenaries would soon abandon their campaign of destruction. For all of Zhongshan’s sake, we hope they are right and the violence ends soon.

Zuhai Public News Network, 17 June 3151

The final track of the campaign was a repeat of the Strike track from the first month. We even rolled the same map sheet. Again the Jade Tigers were able to identify the target building and then eliminate it with a bombing run, but they suffered enough damage that they were not able to claim victory.

The Jade Tigers had monthly maintenance covered by their base pay, received 250 SP in combat pay, and had to spend 155 SP on repairs.

Kate’s Cutlasses had monthly maintenance covered by their base pay, received 750 SP in combat pay, and had to spend 74 SP on repairs in addition to the 49 SP of repair costs covered by their contract.

End of Contract

With their contracts complete, both mercenary units had made a profit and avoiding losing any hardware or personnel. The Jade Tiger Mercenaries ended the contract with 3,595 SP in their war chest and then spent 400 of that in order to improve the Gunnery skill for both Jade and Mateo. Meanwhile, Kate’s Cutlasses ended their contract with 4,528 SP in their war chest and also spent 400 SP on Gunnery training for both Kate and Jess. With an overall victory, the reputation of Kate’s Cutlasses has improved while the Jade Tiger Mercenaries will need to work harder to prove themselves in the future.

With the Pearl Dragon Mining Corporation showing no signs of being willing to leave the AgroWorks Union in control of the facility, both units have pending offers from their employers to serve another three months on Zhongshan.

While working on my most recent Alpha Strike battle report, I had an idea for how to include more commentary on decisions made in the game. This video is my first attempt at that format. It is the same battle report but with added segments where I jump in and talk about what I was thinking during the game and where I think I made mistakes while playing.

I’m interested in what you all think about the format and if it is something that you’d like to see more of as I continue making battle reports.
