Working on an Archive project with a buddy

He has a box of Betacam SP Tapes that won’t show Video, but have Time Code.

A bit of time spent on them reveals they were Recorded in Betacam SX -
a different signal format, thou on the same size Cassette.

SP is an 80s Analogue #Broadcast Format. SX is newer, Digital System from the late 90s

I’ve now Digitised them for him.

@TechConnectify #BetaCam, like #MemoryStick - only had a slow and painful death since #Sony reduses to budge to conventional wisdom even when the market has already decided otherwise.

Growing up I had a highly inflated opinion of betamax because I had seen a bunch of music videos that my dad and uncle had shot on betacam.

I didn't realize the difference at the time and, having never actually experienced betamax in person, went years thinking it was as good as the betacam footage I saw.
