A small stone church with a square tower stands surrounded by well-kept lawns and a variety of trees in full seasonal foliage, some bright green and others deep red. A neatly trimmed hedge runs along the front, separating the churchyard from the open grassy area. Bare branches of a nearby tree stretch across the top of the frame, casting a pattern of shadows on the vivid green lawn. The sky is clear and blue, adding to the calm and orderly appearance of the rural setting.

Looking across fields at Blankney in Lincolnshire.

The ancient family of d’Eyncourt held their manor here at Blankney in Lincolnshire from the 11th century until the 15th when it passed to the Lovell family. The land returned to the crown and the barony went into its first abeyance when Francis Lovell was attainted following his disappearance after the Battle of Stoke Field in 1487.

It was the barony, in its second abeyance in the 18th century, that the Tennysons family at Tealby had their eye on.

There are some lovely period houses in the Lincolnshire village of Blankney that are situated on a manor that anciently belonged to the d’Eyncourt/d'Aincourt family.

The village appears in the Domesday Book as Blanchene and was held by Walter d’Aincourt, it was at the head of his barony.

The d’Aincourts feature prominently in Lincolnshire, but they also held manors in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. They frequently pop up in connection to other Lincolnshire families such as the Tennysons at Tealby. Their connection is tenuous to say the least.
