(i regret not including my age when i read the first 8 books, because these books were essential for the formation of my personality, which has been ever evolving. book covers 1-7 were all between the ages of 13 and 17. book 8 (Vachss) was in my 40's. today's book was also in my teens. i guess i'm trying to be somewhat sequential with my choices)

"Also destroyed were the works of Heinrich Heine, a writer of Jewish descent, who a century earlier had foreshadowed the hell to come: 'Where they burn books, they will ultimately also burn people.'"

"Albert Einstein and Thomas Mann, Sigmund Freud and Wal-ther Rathenau, Stefan Zweig, Erich Maria Remarque, and Hermann Hesse were among the authors whose names were read aloud in a litany of protest against those who defied 'the national will to live.' The mob threw hundreds of volumes — seized from libraries, synagogues, and churches — onto the massive fire."

"On the evening of May 10, 1933, the first day of the summer semester, students and professors joined members of the local Sturmabeilung around a bonfire at the Opernplatz in the shadows of the Humboldt monument."
~ Charles Marsh, Strange Glory: A Life of Dietrich Bonhoeffer (NY: Knopf, 2014), p. 174, on the bonfire of books the Nazis organized in Berlin in May 1933

You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them. ~ #RayBradbury #quotes #books #bookburning #culture
On this day in 1526, Bishop Cuthbert Tunstall burned Tyndale’s English New Testaments at Paul’s Cross, hoping to crush heresy.
But buying up copies to burn only funded Tyndale’s next, better edition. Oops!
Censorship vs print? Print won.

In 1971, Ariel Dorfman and Armand Mattelart published “How to Read Donald Duck,” a book-length essay critiquing Disney comics as capitalist propaganda for U.S. corporate and cultural imperialism. It became a bestseller throughout Latin America and is still considered a seminal work in cultural studies. It was first published in Valparaiso, Chile when Allende was in power. Pinochet banned it and conducted public book burnings.

If #wikipedia is "too left wing" there is always the https://conservapedia.com/ if you want to check your #poeslaw levels, or just to see what the future wikipedia will look like with no "left wing bias"
... But the fascist have a thing against Wikipedia, Musk made noises against it too...
... The Nazis are engaged in modern day book burning, they have deleted multiple websites and they will not rest until the information space is fascist version of history.

Censorship is still censorship.
Nations set books on fire, delete files, and invent new ways to forget what they already knew… but then they eventually discover deleting the information wasn't the best idea. It's like regretting the divorce you started, but with civilization.
