#TTRPG I ran this week:
🌈 Ultraviolet Grasslands: successful Spectrum Palace heist!
😈 Break!! in The Shrike: the spider-witch from hell is slain!
💁 Factotums: we tracked down a lost cat from Caen to Cherbourg and fed it a fish 😺🐟

Ran our ~40th session of #BreakRPG in #TheShrike tonight (weekly, remote, 2h).
This setting book is a nightmare to use. We have been playing for almost a year, and I still struggle to find the informations I need in its seemingly random structure and lackluster index. The same NPC can have pieces of descriptions in 3 different chapters without references to one another ; stat blocks are either in location description or in the bestiary, seemingly at random ; page references are wrong… 😩
So far, Break!! RPG has one of the best procedures for fighting colossal monsters. Each body part has specific HP, and a description of what happens if that body part suffers enough damage.
But not only that, to sell the absolute scale of the monster, each body part counts as a battlefield area, so all rules for normal combat apply, but now you're climbing giant legs and sliding across a monster's back, instead of running across the field. It's all just reflavoured!
The Break!! RPG is undoubtedly a labor of passion for the hobby and its inspirations.
How else would you explain having 10+ years of development time, all documented in a blog running back to 2013!

Break!! RPG, written by Reynaldo Madriñan and with art and layout by Carlo Tartaglia is a beautiful game, although deceiving.
Its evocative cheerful anime illustrations lend themselves to a lighthearted vibe, however the rules put it closer to OSR sensibilities, both in procedure, lethality and its low-magic setting.
The list of inspirations immediately reveal this dichotomy, and I welcome this contrast, marrying "kawaii" and gritty violence in a way only anime can.
Today we had an adventure in some cat-acombs of a Rai Neko city in our #BreakRPG
@Lizards_cast Tonight I'm running #BreakRPG for my sister and friends, we are exploring a megadungeon called The Shrike, a marine-themed fragment of hell that broke off, full of devils, sinners, and strange hybrids born from the life-giving blood of the mysterious god impaled atop the gigantic metal spire. 🔥
On Friday, I'll probably be running the new edition of #CommunityRadio, a GMless game about the strange happenings in a small community, as told over the local radio. 📻
Every single game system mixing roll-over and roll-under that I ever tried had the players confused about their rolls, not knowing whether to be happy or sad about their 1s and 20s, constantly asking to be reminded of the rules. Most recently, I had this issue with #BreakRPG, but here #Swyvers doubles down by also changing the dice used, for maximum confusion.
#TTRPG designers, if you pull this kind of acrobatics, please at least provide a quick reference or rule cheatsheet for the players. 🙏
Last Sunday: running #UVG 🌈, then playing #OSE 🐉
Monday: playing Warhammer Underworlds ⚔️
Tuesday: running #BreakRPG in The Shrike 😈
Wednesday: Improv 🎭
Thursday: playing #XCrawl Classics 📺
Friday: playing #OSE 🐲
Saturday: running Donjon Sans Façon for schoolkids in the afternoon :d6:, and possibly Community Radio in the evening 📻
Overall, a busy tabletop gaming week for me :ablobcatrainbow: :d20:.
@kensanata
Nice!
My first #BreakRPG campaign reached its end in 9 sessions, we played NightmareOver Ragged Hollow. The group climbed to level 6 and reached the advanced abilities, so it gave a good overview of the system.
In the second one we were playing Secret of the Black Crag, but we had a TPK last session so we will now be playing The Shrike, a module set in Hell. 😈

A tabletop role playing game with its own in-game game consoles. That’s my kind of game.
Receiving the physical book with the Core Rules for Break!! RPG, has catapulted my children and me into a series of adventures that is turning out to be quite satisfying for all three of us.
We're a group made up of a Rai-Neko Raider with a Beasthandler background, a Tenebrate BattlePrincess with a Murkdweller background, and a Chib Factotum with an Archive Researcher background.
We've met on a Rai-Neko farm on the Pride Coast and are going to work our way to the Sol-Alliance.

Running:
* #UVG, 74th almost-monthly session!
* Just finished a short #BreakRPG campaign
* Bunch of one-shots: #Cairn, #Swyvers, #YoonSuin, #MailOrderApocalypse…
Wish I was playing:
* Mythic Bastionland, enjoyed reading it, a nice twist on the #IntoTheOdd formula;
* My #dungeon23 (lol), sprawling under a parking;
* Non-horror space-op, I should give one of those #Cepheus variants a read, wouldn't mind some cyberpunk themes mixed in.
