CD City.
As part of the theme of opening a CD player and finding a tiny city, I modelled the water of the sea pouring out of the (now open) front.
I'm sure the boats will be fine...

More angles of the CD City.
Including the service station on the bypass (gotta build bypasses...), and a subway that makes use of the headphone and power ports with track and a train peeking out.
CD City.
As seen in my profile banner.
I was looking for something to do with a broken CD player and thought of making a diorama of sorts.
I imagined opening the player and a tiny city magically pops up.
I couldn't achive the magic or popping, but I did scratchbuild a city at the smallest scale I've worked at.
More CD city.
To complete the story of finding a magical miniature city in a disused trinket, I painted the outside of this CD player grubby and rusty.
The CD City, as a sci-fi city, took some inspiration from Blade Runner; Large billboard screen showing a giant face, and the blimp carrying more advertising.
Again, that face was a challenge in itself; it's small enough to fit on your smallest fingernail.
Across the river, to the left of the city, is the industrial complex of CD City.
For these buildings I chose smoother, rounder or flatter shapes, and painted them in mainly greys to contrast with the colourful city full of interesting shapes.
Another look at the CD City.
Finding a use for parts of the CD player that couldn't be removed:
At the rear of the city was a piece of plastic that housed the player's controls. I painted a landscape of rolling hills to serve as a backdrop.
And the ports for charging and headphones became two ends of the subway, complete with train.
More photos of my CD city.
Here you can see the "outside" of the cd player with clouds painted on the clear part.
Different angles of the city,
and a close-up of the sea, with tiny boats/ships and the water tumbling out of the opened player.
