How can you use code coverage and mutation testing to add tests to legacy code? At @mendercon last year, I demonstrated this powerful technique step by step on the Gilded Rose kata, which is hosted by @emilybache on her GitHub account: github.com/emilybache/GildedRo

Would it be possible to transfer the test-driven development paradigm over to writing fiction? Test-driven novel writing? I think so!

Here’s my pecha kucha talk on the topic from @Oop Munich: youtu.be/s9rPI1lPWfc

I have a tendency to get obsessed with little coding projects, I particularly enjoy making little games… and in this case, many years ago, I created an animation to visualise how the cards in the deck formed fascinating patterns as each game progressed.
You can watch a demo of the game and its animation here (from 11:21): youtu.be/pbechQgcpqQ?si=b3dWLM

People from under-represented genders and ethnic backgrounds often face extra barriers in terms of acceptance and personal insecurities, but there are many out there eager to offer them help.

I interviewed Charlene Hunter from Coding Black Females about all this and much more: youtu.be/4mbbmaEB3ag?si=PsD7TR

I had a lot of fun a few years ago, holed up in a remote cottage in the Lake District with some recording equipment and a bunch of different outfits. I turned myself into a one-woman choir, with a different outfit for each vocal part. This is one of the videos I made, of a short snippet of Big Dipper by @eltonjohn - chosen because of its wonderful harmonies.

I’m Gonna Leave You is one of my favourite Nina Simone songs (I love Nina so much), one of the ones she sings with pure attitude. On this occasion I had a go at performing it on one of the @manchesterjazzfestival pianos, at @factory_international ’s Aviva Studios, in Manchester.

Hubby Ally and I thought it’d be fun to perform Abba’s Mamma Mia as a ballad. I really love this take on the old classic. Recorded on one of our annual holidays on a remote hilltop in the Lake District, with a crackling real fire in the background.

We often discuss compassion, empathy, and kindness in the context of teamwork. But what we don’t always consider is how to be kind to ourselves. Back in 2022, I spoke to @mscottford and @andreagoulet for the @legacycoderocks podcast , about why it’s so important to be compassionate to ourselves… and I shared some techniques on how to achieve this.
