"The Greenhouse," Ludger Larose, 1910.

Larose (1868-1915) was a Canadian artist, educated in Paris, and who worked in France and his native Montreal. He's known mostly for his religious work, portraits, and a number of landscapes.

But, for a change, he occasionally did florals, as we see here.

Happy Flower Friday!

From the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, Quebec City.

Quick peak at the cards from the series I did in the fall. 52 pieces in one day was exhausting.

I bought a little book of poems by Lawren Harris yesterday. He’s best known as an artist - a member of the Group of 7, a painter of Northern landscapes of the Rockies and Greenland that have a mystical aura. Steve Martin recently championed his work which has made his paintings better known outside Canada. His poems were written between the wars when he was recovering from a nervous breakdown suffered during his WW1 service.

The Beast

Shame spreads thin
Over a crowd
And gets lost.

In numbers,
The beast finds its might.
Maddened by greatness
It roars in a mob,
Hounds its prey,
Tears flesh,
Spills blood,
Breaks bones,
Never touching greatness.

It takes lightness
To rise above the mass,
A loss of all coarseness,
A smoothness of soul,
So that the beast
Has nothing to cling to.This is a detail of one of Harris’s paintings of Toronto painted during the period he worked on his book of poetry and is the facing page to th poem, ‘The Beast’ in the edition I have.

It depicts a number of of narrow two-story houses with a rickety fence and snow in the foreground.

Calling all Canadian fedi artists!! I am looking for an artist who would be willing to commission a drawing that I can use for my profile pic both here, and other places! There are a few specifics I am looking for, but otherwise it would be in your creative hands!

I am essentially looking for an anthropomorphized male moose, with other certain details. Either a full character or just a bust/face picture.

Sometimes I play with #watercolour instead pixels. Not sure it's a traditional #IrishBlessing, but it's the blessing we need in 2025.

May my heart be kind,
My mind fierce,
and my spirit brave.
