I walked the Cape Wrath Trail in Scotland over 17 days (433 km).

Day 11: It was a very long day with a distance of nearly 35 km. I was up on my feet quite early.

Due to the many kilometers I had covered by noon, I was surprised and very happy to find this cozy bench for a lunch break. :)

Sometimes the small things can make you very happy when you are reduced to a basic camping life.

Scenic view of a peaceful river with a grassy island, surrounded by lush vegetation and rocks. A wooden bench sits on the island, offering a serene spot to enjoy nature. Bright red berries in the foreground add a pop of color to the tranquil landscape. Ideal location for outdoor relaxation and nature photography.

The Scots pine is Scotland's national tree and is truly a stunning tree.

During the hike, I observed several initiatives aimed at restoring the native tree population through extensive reforestation efforts. However, at the moment, I only saw them occasionally, but it was always a majestic view.

It's still raining heavily on the tenth day, creating mysterious and intense moments.

I am now close to Ullapool and thus have completed more than half of the total distance.

Misty mountain landscape with a faint rainbow in the Scottish Highlands. The serene scene features more brown than green fields in the foreground, with hills partially covered by clouds, creating a tranquil and atmospheric view. Ideal for nature enthusiasts and travel inspiration. A rainbow is partially visible beside a lake.

Photo of Day 9: Just because you have a path (as often as you won't have one) doesn't mean it's easier going than somewhere off-road.

Sometimes, there's no difference between a path and the river next to it. In fact, it's sometimes easier to walk in the river because the ground is harder than the muddy holes on the path that thousands of hikers have made.

On the evening of day 8, I had a few hours of "no rain." Thus, I took advantage of that opportunity to dry my wet equipment. It is not often that you find two suitable trees for a clothesline in the higher regions of the Highlands.

Interestingly, the interior of my tent was mostly wet due to condensation. At night, the temperature dropped to only 2 or 3°C.

A single clothesline stretches between two sturdy trees, its weight held taut by drying garments. A black-and-green-colored sleeping bag and some clothes hang over it. Above, the evening sky shows some clouds. In the background is the treeless slope of a hill.

Day seven: the rain joined me, and it will continue for the next five days. I rather like it, the colors of autumn become so much more intense.

Furthermore, a bothy is visible in this photo. It's a wonderful service of the Mountain Bothies Association of Scotland. I used them twice during the 17 days and was always very happy for the shelter.

A remote white building stands out against the muted browns and greys of the Scottish Highlands. Rain falls softly, blurring the outlines of the distant mountains. The lake in the valley reflects the somber hues of the sky. Despite the dreary weather, the landscape exudes a sense of quiet beauty. The vastness of the scenery evokes a feeling of solitude and peace.

On the sixth day, I had the good fortune to see the Falls of Glomach, which is quite an impressive waterfall (according to Wikipedia, with a fall of 125m, it is the third-highest in Great Britain).

Sadly, the grandeur of the falls isn't truly captured in photographs.

There is a very narrow path at the side that descends to some excellent viewing points.

The highest point of the version of the Cape Wrath Trail that I took was on the fifth day, at 709 metres above sea level.

Therefore, not a Munro Mountain, but close enough. I had some interesting conversations about the Munro Mountains with other hikers I met during my travels in Scotland.

In total, I ascended 1312 metres that day.

You'll see a lot of wildlife on the Cape Wrath Trail. Especially deers are very common, and they're not scared of people at all. It's quite surprising!

But my favorite part was walking through the herds of Scottish Highland cattle. They're so beautiful!

This photograph was taken on the fourth day, but similar incidents have occurred several times.

On the third day, I left the classic Cape Wrath Trail and made a beeline for Inverie.

It was the hardest day, especially down at Loch Nevis's western part: I was knee-deep in mud.

Later on, it was a common situation. However, my body was not yet fully accustomed to walking all day and fighting the mud.

But in the end, the camping place I found was worth it all.

I walked the Cape Wrath Trail in Scotland over 16+1 days (433 km)—quite the adventure!

This is a photo from day two, approximately 50 km after leaving Fort William.

Day two had many wonderful moments (for example, the Hogwarts Steam Train on the aqueduct). It was difficult to select only one picture.

But reaching this place, a field of gold, and camping alongside the river was simply too incredible not to share. 🌅⛺️ #hiking #Nature #CapeWrathTrail #capewrath  #Highlands #photo #scotland

During this time, I was mostly offline. So, I will post one photo for each day of that day, 16 days before, for the next few days.

This one shows the unofficial start (after approximately 12 km from the ferry).

For

Cape Wrath from 40 years ago this month, the NW corner of mainland Scotland. On a cycling holiday round the northwest and north coasts, I detoured to walk from there to Sandwood Bay and Oldshoremore.

Looking across at a cliff top with a lighthouse, a fog horn to its left, and some low buildings. The cliff top is grassy, but with sudden crags. The sea can be faintly seen in the haze.

The most amazing place in Scotland? Sandwood Bay, south of Cape Wrath in Sutherland, offers nearly a mile and half of wide pinkish sand backed by huge sand dunes and a loch, plus an impressive sea stack: and a very long walk in. More pics and info: undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/kin

Cape Wrath. Fading light in winter.

I keep coming back to these images of Cape Wrath last winter. Each time the edit gets a little better....but still isn't quite there yet. A work in progress.
