I walked the Cape Wrath Trail in Scotland over 17 days (433 km).

Day seven: the rain joined me, and it will continue for the next five days. I rather like it, the colors of autumn become so much more intense.

Furthermore, a bothy is visible in this photo. It's a wonderful service of the Mountain Bothies Association of Scotland. I used them twice during the 17 days and was always very happy for the shelter.

A remote white building stands out against the muted browns and greys of the Scottish Highlands. Rain falls softly, blurring the outlines of the distant mountains. The lake in the valley reflects the somber hues of the sky. Despite the dreary weather, the landscape exudes a sense of quiet beauty. The vastness of the scenery evokes a feeling of solitude and peace.

I’ve been reading a lot of #books this spring, and offer these recommendations:

Darkness at Noon by Arthur Koestler - An older book that encapsulates the internecine yet intellectual madness of loyalists within the #Stalinist purges.

Prophet Song by Paul Lynch - a powerfully #dystopian tale of Ireland incrementally slipping into a fascist dictatorship.

#Bothy by Kat Hill - an evocative tale of the history & usage of bothies intermixed with a personal journey of loss, grief and growth. [05/24]

Haus am See. - House by the lake. #Schottland #Scotland #LochLomond #Doune #bothy

There are two houses on a hill by a lake, one of which is dilapidated, the other smaller white one has a red roof. A wet path leads up to the houses, the mountains in the background are almost covered in rain mist.

Kearvaig Bothy. Cape Wrath.

A small bay on the north east coast of Cape Wrath. A disquieting place that should be idyllic but isn’t. I find it quite triggering.

A lone building sits nestled against the hills. The image is in black and white with the slightest of sepia tinges. The mood is of isolation and desolation

@aroundthehills I'm just starting in this way.
Our first trip was cycling with my 7yo to a premier inn in London carrying our clothes.

Then to the YHA hostel at #CwmIdwal with more in our bags.

And the other day we went #Champing in #Wroxeter which is when we packed the most to date! Next stop, the #bothy near #Bala!

#WalkReport Amazing 17km #LakeDistrict walk with #GreatGable, Dub’s Hut #bothy and #HonisterSlateMine being highlights.

Brutal descent coming down from #GreatGable, we spent most of it on all fours looking like crabs🦀

Can you get here by public transport? You certainly can. Just take either the 77 or 78 bus from #Keswick. Currently only £2 per single ticket! 🚌

Memories of Inshriach Bothy from 2014 - a sudden longing for a hut in the woods.

Scanning old slides, March 1981. Sleeper to , 2 day trek with overnight at , to , then sleeper home. I remember it was the weekend the clocks went forward, as I missed my intended train home because of that.
A lot of water about, I remember a couple of interesting river crossings.
I've got a long term plan to recreate this walk at some point.

Looking along a long straight valley, flat with steep sides. A line of telegraph poles receding into the distance. Dull and cloudy.A full waterfall under a wooden foot bridge.A river meandering and braiding over a wide valley which rises slightly to low hills. A ruined stone building on the far bank.A stone building on a slightly sloping hillside, steeper hills to the side. The grassy patch immediately outside the building has some sleeping bags spread out in the sunshine.

Landscapes from the other weekend on Carrock Fell via Rake Trod onto Round Knott, Miton Hill, Drygill Head and Great Lingy Hill. Views over to Bowscale Fell, Coomb Height, Blencathra and many of the north western fells. Superb day, so lucky to have chosen yet another weekend of snow!

Missed so this will have to be Throwback Thaturday.

Have been scanning a lot of old slides recently, the ones from 1983 will be celebrating their 40th anniversary this year, so will spam a few of them here.

January 1983, a few days at the Lairig Leacach bothy above Spean Bridge. We were snowed in for a couple of days, hence the young bored male pyromaniac tendencies. But we did do some walking.

2 men stood in front of a mountain bothy, dressed for hill walking. Hills in the background with some snow covering.Man cooking on a window ledge in a mountain bothy. The interior of the building looks grim. Pots, pans, candles, and whisky bottles on the window ledge.2 people carrying full rucksacks and dressed for the cold walking in a snowy mountain landscape. Misty conditions.Young man playing with lighting candles and a burner in the upstairs area of a mountain bothy. Wooden floor and beams and roof make this a hazardous occupation. Another young man watches uncertainly.

A very old sandstone built ruin of a bothy. Its situated at the bottom of a wooded slope. There are branches over and growing from within. They are bare - its still winter. On the right some of the stonework is moss covered. The weak sun makes the sandstone look warm. The sandstone is very weathered in places showing prominent iron bands. One corner facing the camera has dressed stone, the rest is rough worked.
