Climbing

A departing aircraft happened to fly across a batch of beautiful Cirrocumulus stratiformis, with the sun illuminating the clouds from behind and providing stark contrasts. July 2023.

I like to take telephotos of details in clouds that I find beautiful. Cirrocumulus never fails to deliver in this regard. Can you spot the Kelvin-Helmholtz waves? Often the images start looking like watercolour paintings. Not that it would necessarily be a bad thing, but I do like a good grounding element to provide a more relatable point of reference.

Finally pulled the plug on my inactive instagram account, and now I figure I should post some of the older pictures here. Should've done that a long time ago now that I think about it.

$Slightly below the centre of the image there is the small black shilouette of a departing twin propeller aircraft, heading to the right, slightly away from the camera and with its nose tilted a bit upwards. Behind the aircraft is a strikingly white mass of delicate cloud, which continues to the left and connects there to a larger sheet of varying density which spreads around from there to cover most of the image. The clouds are rich in detail, with gentle ridges and ripples here and there. Some of the ripples appear to exhibit the characteristic evenly spaced hooks of Kelvin-Helmholtz waves, also known in this context as fluctus. The clear sky behind the clouds is dark in comparison. At the edges of the image the clouds gain a slightly warmer tint as the diffracted sunlight seperates into different wavelengths at larger angles from the sun. The image is subtly framed at the top and the lower right by lower clouds of similar colour, but fuzzier, less detailed texture.$

Die #Wolken würde ich als #Cirrocumulus floccus undulatus beschreiben.

Wolkennamen klingen ähnlich wie biologische Artnamen, aber die Wolkenklassifizierung ist im Detail nicht immer so eindeutig wie die biologische Systematik, weil Wolken flüchtige Erscheinungen sind, die Übergangsformen bilden und weniger klar bestimmbare Merkmale als Tiere oder Pflanzen haben.

Dennoch lassen sich gut zehn Gattungen unterscheiden ...

Sooo anyway, a bit breeze at dusk and humidity lifted, stars started to twinkle thru some #Cirrocumulus , then went in and baked some #Meatballs to add to sauce that had the 3rd day disappearing meats issue. Updated a couple O' #MastoTirades in the mix. Fin

Tres fotos, tres #Nubes diferentes. Estas son los tres tipos de nubes altas (las que empiezan por cirro-), concretamente, cirros, cirrostratos y cirrocúmulos. Son nubes blanquitas, con cierto grado de transparencia, formadas por cristales de hielo.

En las descripciones de cada imagen hay algunos detalles más.

Se ve la parte final de unos cirrostratos, rasgados, por la parte izquierda de la foto. Los cirrostratos están formados por cristales minúsculos de hielo, así que producen fenómenos ópticos, y en la foto se ve un brillo arcoíris en la parte superior izquierda debido a esto (es un fragmento de halo solar). Por lo demás, el cielo está azul, despejado. En la parte inferior de la foto se ve la copa de un naranjo y de un laurel.

Se ven, sobre un cielo despejado, cirros pequeños, muy filamentosos (su forma típica) y blancos. En la parte de abajo se ve la copa de dos naranjos y un laurel. Sobre la copa del naranjo del centro se ve la luna menguante, muy pequeña porque la foto coge mucho campo de cielo.

En la parte inferior y a la derecha se ven fachadas de casas de pueblo. En el cielo, azul, se ven varias estelas de aviones, que se han expandido y se han convertido en cirrocúmulos. También se ve la luna menguante en la foto y otros cirros por el fondo, mucho más transparentes.
