#ConceptMaps

In this #Tutor #Mentor article I show a difference between 'vertical and horizontal' networking. What most of us do here is horizontal, although the focus on saving democracy is vertical. See how I use #conceptmaps, too. tutormentor.blogspot.com/2022/12/vert...

This is a Tutor/Mentor Connection (1993-present) and Tutor/Mentor Institute, LLC (2011-present) blog article that focuses on how people connect in on-line platforms and how concept maps can be used to show strategies and connections.

The top graphic is the cover of a visual essay that is a "discussion of vertical and horizontal networks".

The bottom graphic is a concept map that shows a goal of helping kids in high poverty areas move through school and into adult lives, with the help of people they meet in organized, volunteer-based tutor/mentor programs.

I share from my blog w goal of finding others working on the same problems. This is from an article titled "How would you visualize this problem solving cycle?" tutormentor.blogspot.com/2024/

This is a cycle that should repeat annually, in many places.

This is a concept map created by Tutor/Mentor Connection (1993-present) and Tutor/Mentor Institute, LLC (2011-present).

If we want to help kids move from school to careers is the title of this concept map. It shows a progression of thinking, which begins when an event calls attention to a problem that needs to be solved. I show the "logic model" that guides my work and how trying to help one youth, or one program, leads to other problems that need to be solved.

While short term goal is to stop Drump & Project2025, long term still show need for strategic, long-term support to help kids in high poverty areas move through school and to adult lives and jobs. I invite others to use my #conceptMaps.

I have been creating #ConceptMaps like this since 2005. Before then I used QuarkExpress and PowerPoint to create my visualizations. You can find them embedded in most of my blog articles.

I shared my collection of #ConceptMaps in this article on my MappingforJustice blog. mappingforjustice.blogspot.com/2025/04/view... Create your own version to focus the ideas on your city/state/region.

This is a concept map created by Tutor/Mentor Connection (1993-present) and Tutor/Mentor Institute, LLC (2011-present). The title is "Types of information the T/MC and T/MI collects and shares.

At the left is a stack of nodes that show most of the concept maps I've created since 2005.

I've created #ConceptMaps since 2005 to share strategies & resources in my #Tutor #Mentor library. At the right side of this map you can find links to almost all of my maps. cmapspublic.ihmc.us/rid=12387276...

I use #GIS maps to focus resources to all high poverty areas within cities like #Chicago. #ConceptMaps serve as #blueprints to show actions needed to help kids through school into adult lives. They can be used in other problem solving efforts, too.

Here's another way I'm using #conceptmaps. This one shows some of my blog articles which act as "mini libraries". By that, I mean I've added additional links, or updates, after the original article was posted. See it at cmapspublic.ihmc.us/rid=1TDQ3Q

I think it's important to create and preserve digital libraries and teach young people to access and learn from them.

Are you using concept maps this way?

This is a Tutor/Mentor Connection (1993-present) and Tutor/Mentor Institute, LLC (2011-present) concept map that shows blog articles that have been used as 'mini-libraries' over the past several years. The topics included are climate change, income inequality, segregation, gun laws, opioid crisis, digital divide, poverty, etc.

These #ConceptMaps are part of a long-term effort to identify stakeholders in #Chicago youth support #ecosystem & connect them to myself and each other. It's part of a much larger effort that I show at www.tutormentorexchange.net

Concept Map Library

I have been creating #ConceptMaps like this since mid 2000s. Visit http :// tutormentor.blogspot.com and see how I have used these in dozens of articles. Does someone in your city have a similar archive?

I was finally able to get my cMapTools folder to open on the PC I purchased last year, thanks to much help from Alberto Canas. See my collection at tutormentorexchange.net/conceptmaps I started building these around 2005. #dataviz #maps #ConceptMaps

Concept Map Library

I've been creating #conceptmaps to visualize ideas & show what's in my library since 2005. I've regularly encouraged leaders to do the same to show problems and solutions. Today my friends at KUMU.io shared this 2016 presentation by Senator Elizabeth Warren with me. It's the closest I've found to doing what I've encouraged other leaders to do. edythe.kumu.io/empowering-amer

This visualization was drawn using KUMU.io software to communicate the "empowering American workers and raising wages" strategy of Senator Elizabeth Warren.

The image shown is a summation of the previous pages, where elements of this full graphic are presented.

This article on the blog shows my use of to visualize roles leaders need to take to help all youth born or living in high poverty areas get the extra, on-going, support they need to move from . tutormentor.blogspot.com/2021/

Does someone have a similar collection for your city/state?

I've used since 2005 to visualize ideas and strategies for helping kids. I use cMapTools, but often I've pointed to other tools, like Kumu and NodeXL. In this article I show two comprehensive visualizations of youth employment challenges. One is for Botswana and the other for England. tutormentor.blogspot.com/2024/

I'd love to see my , network taking time to explore these, and someone in Chicago & other US cities creating their own versions.

This is a causal loop diagram created by Pierce Gordon, Using Kumu.io. It focuses on Systems Thinking and Youth Unemployment in Botswana.

I've used and visualizations since 1990s to try to help people understand the Tutor/Mentor Connection & ways they can apply it in their own lives. Here's an article w that and 3 other maps. tutormentor.blogspot.com/2022/

This is a concept map intended to help people understand and apply the Tutor/Mentor Connection strategies, which were developed in Chicago since 1993.

In the grey box the text reads: "Poverty is a complex problem. building systems of support reaching youth in thousands of locations is a complex solution. You can't learn all you need to know in a short period of time. You need a learning path, pointing you to ideas you can draw from throughout your life journey.

This is a guild through the information made available by Tutor/Mentor Connection, a project of Tutor/Mentor Institute, LLC since 2011.

We made a huge journey from personal notes to nonlinear note-taking tools like #mindmaps and #conceptmaps. , super complex second brain apps and derivatives like #obsidian and #logseq that build on top of the idea of #backlinks

I always had a feeling that I had a big missed tool. #knowledgegraph.

How do you take the complexity of #rdf #sparql and other magic and bring convenience to a #knowledgegraph ?
