Finished up tweaking the power settings for the i7-14700k in the new server.

Typical load reports 31 package watts, light load on just e-cores that drops to 7-8 watts. With PL2 @ 100w, max temps are 53C.

P-cores can see 6.0 ghz, typ. 5.8 ghz, w/e-cores peak 4.0 and typ. 3.2. Full load at 100W/PL1, drops to 4.7/3.0.

At targetted normal use, this is a 3-9% performance uplift with a decrease of 25% power usage; avg. -16.8 watts at the UPS.

There we go, addition of a #Bhutan flag emblem, couple stickers on the PSU and ... slide in a 6-drive SSD bay ~~~ this machine is pretty much done, asides from a little cleanup (next time it is offline).

Interestingly, if I don't have a pair of SSDs in the top, the case pressure blows out the front.

( I posted pics to #CowServer hashtag as I went along )

Added an RGB strip to the server project. It exactly fits, as in both VRM cooler and CPU heat sink are in contact with it. Shifted the CPU fan to also sit on the edge of the VRM heatsink. Adjusted the load line thing.

The 40mm fans kept sucking in the foam and stopping. Tried to space them with fiber washers but wasn't effective. So now, no foam.

Temps are way down: after restoring VMs only the NIC (@ 47C) is above 30C.

Just the drive bay & clean up the cables to do.

After bringing the new server (#CowServer) online, joined it to the existing to make a #Proxmox cluster, then remembered something...

Couldn't really turn it off, the cluster would lose quorum. Well, can set a machine to two votes, 'two_node' to on, it does work that way.

But not well, been down this road before ;P

Added a cheap little #N100 box from Beelink as a third node - good for that critical third vote, and unlike a qdevice, can also run some little things (pihole's).

Enough pieces arrived to bring the server online, it's operational, proxmox is installed, and it's joined to the (low-availability) cluster.

Little bit of progress on the server this evening.

With the motherboard in, the server is starting to kinda come together. Looks like the cooler will fit just fine.

The wires, well. They will fit of course, but this may not be pretty.

Finished up working on this for now.

The fans are in, PSU mounted. Put some tesa tape along the PSU edges to prevent scratches and help seal the PSU from the main area.

Can hardly see the fan twist ties from the outside so this will work.

Cables might a problem, much longer than needed. I lost the power button caps. Thinking also the yellow edging on the top lid PSU cutout should have been black.

A few 40mm fans arrived today as well, and what I hoped would be the CPU cooler.

Cooler will have to be returned, it's been opened before and a screw is stripped. Grr.

These 40mm are not the greatest air movers, but in a small case, every bit helps I figures. There is just enough space to fit four across the front. It's pretty tight.

PSU arrived today for the 2U server project. MSI A850GL.

Did some drilling and filing to get the cover turned around (so the dragon isn't upside down).

Looks like not a bad little PSU, perhaps not as high grade as some of my other systems.. but it is short, white, and has a dragon on it so should fit well this system.

Searching for some fans to test fit, I found a spare 240 #AIO. It fits rather well though the drive bay... water cooling this 2U, mad max style, totally plausible. So tempted.

Instead though, going with a pair of 40x10 and a pair of 40x20 fans across the top. Sealed off some of the grill to cut recirculation while it's apart.

Case reassembled, still needs a little bit of cure time, but it can do that on the rack.

The insides of the 4U below are in the colours of the flag of St. Lucia. This one adopts the yellow/orange (white/black) of the flag of Bhutan.

Well, this may take a number of months to complete, for a matter of funds... but started a new server project.

The case is a Rosewill 2U RSV-2700U. It no longer comes in black, but that is now fixed. Some work to do!
