I always have to look up who David McComb is, but apparently he was from an Australian band called the Triffids and passed away in 1999. Anyway, "I'm Your Fan" is a Leonard Cohen tribute album which also contains John Cale's cover of "Hallelujah" (which is my favourite). I don't know that I have heard the original version of this song, and have a hard time thinking what it might sound like. Was it from the album he did with Phil Spector? Must be.

The Triffids, Calenture, 1987 on Island Records

This was actually the fourth LP for the Australian alt-rock (post-punk?) band The Triffids, but likely their best known to US audiences (like me). The literary-ness of being named after The Day of the Triffids and using (and defining on the sleeve – this was well before google) a word like Calenture appeared to the precocious teen me:

Calenture: Tropical fever or delirium suffered by sailors after long periods away from land, who imagine the seas to be green fields and desire to leap into them

At this point The Triffids were David McComb, Robert McComb, Alsy MacDonald, Graham Lee, Martyn Casey, and Jill Birt, with production credits spread across Adam Peters, David McComb, Gil Norton, and Craig Leon.
