#DigitalMusicking

2017-06-25

@woozle @msk @fluffy Been posting some simple experiments here. soundcloud.com/enkerli
Some of them are with Free/Libre Open Source Software, but not all.
Recently bought an Eigenharp Pico, which is my current focus in terms of #DigitalMusicking.

Got my very own #Axoloti Core board. Still want to focus on #RaspberryPi, #SonicPi, and #PureData for my #DigitalMusicking needs. But this little standalone microprocessor will provide me with some experimentation potential.
At this point, my main project is in creating my own digital wind instrument. Those exist but they don't really hit all points on my wishlist. Clear opportunity for prototyping.

My dancemat just arrived. Will use it for #DigitalMusicking.

#BiologicalMusicking intrigues me, but #DigitalMusicking is more my thing, at this point. Still, the attitudes behind such projects may mesh well with mine.

#DigitalMusicking
So easy to just paste code snippets together to create something new. In this case, combined my ring modulated breath-controlled TB-303 type synth with my melodic counter-motion code, both from #SonicPi.

Got a #DigitalMusicking project for a DIY electronic wind instrument.
SonicState and DivKid discuss both breath control and Ondes Martenot expressiveness. Including controlling wavetables and filters. Been having a blast playing with such things on my WX-11 Wind Controller or on 3D controllers (#RasPi, #LeapMotion…). Knobs and faders are great, but breath and gestures can feel a lot more organic. Smooth, continuous controls, not pianocentrism.

My other profile (@Enkerli) is arts-focused, especially #DigitalMusicking.

Backing the Blokas #pisound campaign for my own #DigitalMusicking projects. More appropriate for my needs than the #Axoloti, tbh. Especially with #SonicPi and #PureData.
Is @hapax in the same boat?

Don't you love it when the puzzle pieces start falling together? Don't believe in the “Law of Attraction” but there's this neat feeling that events are almost like “a sign”.
In my case, it's about #DigitalMusicking. Made a decision to invest time, energy, and maybe a bit of money in it. And, now, it’s sounding like my efforts weren't in vain.

@pettter Having met some #iMindsBE folks, not surprised.
How does it compare to Pd, though? Lots of support there, with such a deep history. To me, it sounds a little bit like ChucK, which has some really neat features but makes up its own little universe.
Will probably get an #AxolotiCore once they come back on sale. Just wondering how much of a time investment to put in it. My other #DigitalMusicking projects revolve around RasPi.

Any #Axoloti users, here? Been searching for the ideal #DigitalMusicking device and it sounds like an interesting option. Would rather stick to #RaspberryPi with either #SonicPi or #PureData. But a music-focused device might fit the bill.

@WoodooProd Thank you! Been having a blast but been humbled by people’s full productions. For a sax player who’s dipping toes into #DigitalMusicking after decades away from it, it’s a long process.

@randulo Goes in line with my thing about #MusicalDiversity. In fact, France is having some impact on #DigitalMusicking, after places like Germany and Japan. For a sax-playing ethnomusicologist, it’s quite interesting.
Also interesting to me that you’d use a looper. To my ear, it works really well for your style. It’s an appropriate way to appropriate the tools. ;)

1/2 Been interested in diverse approaches to #DigitalMusicking, from “piano roll”, step sequencers, and drum pads to 3D sensors, signal processing, and algorithmic composition.

Part of this interest has to do with my own musical activities, rethinking some assumptions and embedded models. Another part is more academic, related to research on #DigitalMaking.
