He refused, so they filed #DMCA

Tencent has filed a sweeping set of #DMCA complaints with #GitHub, leading to the removal of dozens of #opensource projects that enable users to export or analyze their own #WeChat chat histories.

“It's illegal to allow users to access their own data," wrote WeChat Clean’s developer, summarizing their interpretation of the complaint while announcing the shutdown of the project.
