Jak w przypadku każdego, nowego produktu Apple, serwis iFixit dokonał rozbiórki komputera przestrzennego Apple Vision Pro. W sieci znajdziemy już także pierwsze testy wytrzymałości urządzenia na upadki.

iFixit nie ma wątpliwości

Demontaż Vision Pro przez iFixit ujawnia wewnętrzne komponenty komputera, w tym szereg kamer i czujników, wentylatorów, silników obiektywów i nie tylko. Nic dziwnego, że otwarcie i naprawa Vision Pro będzie trudna.

EyeSight wydaje się być piętą achillesową w kontekście wszelkich napraw Vision Pro, ale doceniamy, że Apple mimo wszystko postawiło na łatwo wymienialne głośniki i baterię. To duże ułatwienie w zakresie napraw.

Vision Pro jest zasilany przez procesor 8-rdzeniowe CPU Apple M2 z 10-rdzeniowym GPU i 16-rdzeniowym Neural Engine oraz 16 GB zunifikowanej pamięci RAM. Możemy zamówić go z maksymalną pamięcią równą 1 TB. Komputer posiada także dodatkowy koprocesor Apple R1, który „przetwarza dane wejściowe z 12 kamer, 5 czujników i 6 mikrofonów, aby zapewnić, że treści wyglądają tak, jakby pojawiały się tuż przed oczami użytkownika”.

Howarth powiedział, że Apple zaprojektowało Vision Pro z „dużą ilością elastycznych materiałów i miękkich tekstur”, takich jak opaska Solo Knit Band, aby ludzie „nie tylko czuli się fizycznie komfortowo, ale także cieszyli się noszeniem go wokół innych”. To oczywiście sprawa dyskusyjna, co świetnie podsumował w swoim wideo Casey Neistat.

Upadku nie przeżyje

Pierwsze testy wytrzymałości na upadek przeprowadził kanał AppleTrack. Nie napawają optymizmem. Przednie szkło Vision Pro wytrzymuje co prawda więcej niż zakładano, ale przypominam, że koszt jego wymiany może sięgnąć 2400 USD, czyli prawie tyle co nowy komputer w podstawowej konfiguracji.

Głośniki nie przeżyją upadku z wysokości 2 m. Istnieje ryzyko, że opaska trzymająca headset (niewymienialna, zaraz przy jego korpusie) będzie pękać po jakimś czasie z powodu przeciążeń. Raczej nie ma się co martwić o to, że przednie szkło nie wytrzyma upadku, kontaktu ze ścianą czy kieliszkiem (podczas oglądania filmu, a o to się obawiałem).

Wychodzi na to, że Apple Vision Pro wytrzyma naprawdę wiele jeśli chodzi o jego przednie szkło i naprawdę mało, jeśli chodzi o pozostałą część konstrukcji… Zaskakujące.

Nawet po zbiciu przedniego szkła i jego zdjęciu, kamery i ekran przedni nadal działają. Natomiast – nie próbujcie sami tego sprawdzać.

“On Sunday, game developer Seanathan Bates discovered a working iPhone that fell 16,000 from Alaska Airlines flight 1282 on Friday. Flight 1282 suffered an explosive decompression event when a door plug blew off the plane. No one was injured during the incident. The iPhone wasn't injured, either—still unlocked and with a torn charging cable connector plugged in, it appeared largely undamaged and displayed information that matched the flight.” 😳

On January 5, an Alaska Airlines flight from Portland to California experienced an uncontrolled decompression shortly after takeoff when a door plug blew out.

The aircraft was immediately diverted back to Portland for an emergency landing, and fortunately, all 171 passengers and 6 crew members onboard survived the accident. The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is currently investigating the cause of this accident.

As part of the incident, several items were lost, including personal devices.

Yesterday, Game designer and application developer Seanathan Bates from Vancouver, WA posted on X—formerly Twitter—that they found an iPhone on the side of the road, and crazily enough, it is in perfect, still working condition.

It is estimated that the Apple device fell 16,000 feet (approximately 4,875 m or almost five km!) and even had a broken-off charger plug still attached to the base.

This has to be the unofficial record for a successful drop test, right?

This Lens Filter Survived a 100 Foot Drop onto Concrete Nearly Unscathed

Kolari Vision has announced a new UV Protection Lens Filter that is so tough, it can survive a fall from 135 feet (41m), which the company proves in the video above.

As can be seen, the filter survives the drop with what looks like nothing more than a minor scuff on the surface of the glass. The company says the UV protection filter is built with premium ultra-thin, ultra-strong Corning Gorilla Glass, that is "more than two times stronger than Schott B270 glass to direct impacts, and more resistant to scratches for better lens protection, all while also boasting a high internal transmission and lower refractive index than Schott B270 for sharper images."

While typical glass can break from heights of just five feet, the Kolari Vision Pro UV Protection Filter appears to be able to survive drops from twenty times that distance. It is always debatable how much a lens filter of any kind actually protects your lens, but if one had to choose between filter glass that shatters from a simple short drop versus one that can survive a 100 foot or more fall, the stronger one is a far more compelling choice.

"The UV filter is optically engineered to be incredibly transparent with over 99% transmission and low reflection while cutting UV at 415nm, a strong cutoff point designed for digital-based on our analysis of hundreds of modern cameras. We topped off the perfect glass with 36 layers of premium coatings to make the glass incredibly transparent and low reflection while making the already durable glass water, oil, and scratch-resistant," the company claims.

AR/AS coated for easy cleaning increased durability, and reduced reflections.

The filters are also housed in a precision-made slim brass frame that leads to less vignetting and a smoother installation than aluminium. The filter ring has a high friction knurling added to it providing an easier grip while wearing gloves or bare-handed regardless of weather situation. The company states the brass material will reduce instances of cross-threading and jams.

Even though most manufacturers will state that their UV filters are not meant to protect your lens against impact damage, especially not with a fall from 100 feet or more, this particular filter from Kolari Vision might be a one that is actually capable of doing so, even if it's just for adding a tough layer between your lens's front element to block scratches or scuffs.

The Kolari Vision Pro UV Cut Protective Filters starts at $65 for the 49mm and ranges as much as $105 for it's largest 82mm thread size.
