It kind of breaks my heart that Drova is my first ever Steam refund. I was really looking forward to finally get this game, but after playing it for about an hour, it just didn't vibe with me at all.

I've been enjoying #Drova over the past few days. Fans call it “2D Gothic”, and that's a great description.

I especially love the in-game music and the atmosphere it creates. Today I learned that Viktor Zin, the composer, used a layer-based system (each layer is mastered separatly, with no final mix) and allowed the game developers to arrange and loop various parts of the music according to the requirements of the game and player actions. It works really well.

4) "Kollektivistische RPGs"
eine Powerfantasy auf zwei Beinen wird, ist der gesamte Erfolg verankert in der Spielwelt und der Gesellschaft durch die man sich bewegt hat. Finde ich ehrlich gesamt ziemlich cool. (und auch das #Drova diesen Ansatz übernommen hat)

Da ich das hier ja auch auf einem #PnP server teile, kennt ihr sowas auch bei Pen and Paper Rollenspielen? Bei Call of Cthulhu gehts ein kleiiiiin bisschen in die Richtung soweit ich mich erinnere.

1) "Kollektivistische RPGs"
Zu sehen wie meine Partnerin aktuell #Drova spielt und vor kurzem selber die #Velaya Mod für #Gothic2 gespielt zu haben hat mich an ein YT-Essay erinnert, in dem der YTer diese RPGs als "Collectivist RPGs" bezeichnet hat; im Kontrast zum typischen "Individualist RPG" zu welchem die meisten CRPGs gehören. (Das ist keine Wertung! erstmal nur einteilend)
Im Kern der Sache steht, wie der Charakterfortschritt funktioniert, spric, wie die Spielfigur lernt...

Remember when I mentioned #Drova a 2D pixel art game that looked like it played similar to a 2D #Gothic in Splattercat's video?

I played it for a while when I had the cold, and it really is a 2D Gothic-like game!

I admit the beginning was very bumpy. Around every bush lurked an encounter that felt like I could win with more skill, but I lost. But you can cheese enemies and powerlevel with combat-less quests to get ahead of the curve, and I love being back in that kind of experience!

Drova is on my mind while at work…Trying to work out where something is on the map while attempting to not be bored. I ended up looking it up and hoping those were the right directions. As I found everything else but my initial goal before work. 😂

I’ve been playing more now that I turned the difficulty down to, “Vicious Slap Fight” instead of “Enemies will reduce you to dust with 7 hits”. This makes exploring the Moor manageable but not easy.
