After the #ThirtyYearsWar Renée du Bec-Crespin continued her diplomatic activities, although informally. In 1659 she was appointed as Maria Theresa of Spain’s maid of honour, but she died on her way to receive the bride at the Spanish-French border.

If you want to read more about Renée du Bec-Crespin, we recommend the article by Anuschka Tischer who was one of first researchers to highlight female #emdiplomats:

Anuschka Tischer, Eine französische Botschafterin in Polen: die Gesandtschaftsreise Renée de Guébriants zum Hofe Władisławs IV. 1645/1646, in L’Homme. Zeitschrift für feministische Geschichtswissenschaft 2 (2001), 305-321.

Summing up, Goetze concludes that the complexity of #emdiplomacy is reflected in the complexity of the #HRE and calls for more a more inclusive approach meaning more exchange between different research tradition, combining constitutional history, court studies and dynastic history and #NewDiplomaticHistory.
