Thinking about the #FolktaleWeek2023 prompt #FolktaleIllusion reminds me of this #linocut illustration from last year of Hans Christian Andersen’s dreamy fairytale ‘The Little Elder Tree Mother’.

In the story a little boy has caught a cold and is sick in bed and his mother brings him a pot of elder tree blossom tea. A kindly old man visits and the boy asks him for a story. 🧵1/n

My linocut print illustrating The Little Elder Tree Mother on bluish Japanese washi paper with visible fibres. A teapot with an elderberry pattern is printed on a wooden table (in brown with the texture of wood). Out of the spout comes a whole elder tree in bloom (brown branches, green leaves, green outlined flowers) in bloom. There is a tiny old lady with a shawl in the tree, seemingly dressed in leaves and blossoms.
