December boardgames plays, in which I started a new Fellowship of the Ring campaign with our youngest, who is home from college. For Christmas, I got him Turing Machine, which he loves. I enjoyed re-playing Cyclades so much I've started writing a QBASIC version of it over break (as one does). #Boardgames #BGStats #FOTR #Cyclades
We started a new campaign of The Fellowship of the Ring: Trick-Taking Game tonight. It's that addictive. #FOTR #BoardGames
Cried for the last 39 minutes. First one down! TTT tomorrow, my favorite.
Chanting HALDIR! HALDIR! HALDIR!
2.5 decades and I'm still learning new trivia. Like Viggo only being filmed from the right in Moria because he had a black eye from surfing.
:drake_dislike: high speed chase
:drake_like: with horses

“But they were, all of them, deceived. For another ring was made.
In the lands of Mordor, in the fires of Mount Doom the Dark Lord Sauron forged in secret, a master ring. And into this ring he poured his cruelty, his malice, and his will to dominate all life.
One ring to rule them all.”
August plays here, as I forgot to thread them: https://dice.camp/@jalanhenning/115124625127100451
I only got 6 different board games to the table in September, which was disappointing, but part of that was becoming obsessed with The Fellowship of the Ring: Trick-Taking Game, which we played in three sessions.
I was uncertain of how to track its games (sessions? chapters? attempts?), so of course I did a poll and went with the consensus: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/3583102/article/46664997#46664997
I mean, I haven't even gone into detail like Corrie Olsen (hope I spelled that right), though I did recommend the podcast. No one took me up on it though. Ah well. I hope to catch up to where I am in the podcast, versus where I am in the book soon. Only on Book I, Chapter 5 of #FOTR in hard-copy Braille. They are still working on Book II, Chapter 2, so there's that... If I really contain myself I can wait till I catch up again... Hrm.

Je tu někdo #fotr? Kdo může krom dětí probrat i něco vo tom životě mimo rodnou půdu? Vykopávám. Je to masakr.
Last weekend, #Yellowknife hosted its annual Folk On The Rocks music festival. It's really the big event of the summer & there's always a great range of music featuring everyone from locals and amateurs to world-famous acts. It's held just a few km outside of town on the sandy shores of Long Lake.
This year, for the first time ever, we worked with the territorial government & festival organizers to use pylons to mark out a separated bike lane along the highway shoulder. Usually, this area is full of parked cars which forces riders out into the highway traffic, making it too dangerous for many would-be cyclists.
Looking at the photos, it seems like such a tiny victory, but without it, I would never have been comfortable biking with my kids. As it was, we rode the 6 km at a leisurely pace, blasting music from a boom-box and sauntered right through the front gates without the frustratingly long hunt for car parking. This is the way to do #FOTR !

"Yet such is oft the course of deeds that move the wheels of the world: small hands do them because they must, while the eyes of the great are elsewhere."

70% of the world’s population live in countries where the expression of humanist values is severely repressed; where the full realization of one’s right to freedom of religion or belief is impossible. The result: harsh penalties for apostasy; a higher likelihood of the perpetuation of harmful traditional practices; religious nationalism entrenching conservative values within society. #FOTR
“This year’s Report provides evidence of clear and systematic discrimination against humanists and non-religious people, and this discrimination is most prevalent in countries with less state secularism. State secularism appears to be a prerequisite for the full enjoyment of the right to freedom of religion or belief.”

The are literally watching that firework shoot into the sky and become a dragon, how are they afraid of it as if it's a real dragon? Ugh, hobbits. #FOTR
