The main part of the church was built between 1160 and 1200 from field stones. The building is painted white, and the tower, with a square floor plan, has a high, pointed dome covered with grey shingles. The bells in the choir are not visible because the shutters in the openings are closed. Below the spire, the wrought-iron monogram of the Danish King Frederick V and further letters and numbers adorn the façade.

The shutters of the tower windows and the monogram, together with the pointed tower dome, resemble a face. A goblin? An oversized dwarf? In any case, a curiously friendly creature!
