It's been a busy couple of weeks here at the Newsmast Foundation.

After visiting #FediMTL in Montréal last week, then going straight to Wales for the launch of the Tŵt app with @teamtoot , then to Copenhagen for Rebuild, whilst attending @fediforum online, you might think we're going to quiet down for the next couple of weeks 👀

We're still working hard to bring more people meaningful community on the Social Web ⚡️

I've been so busy preparing for FediMTL the past two weeks that I totally forgot to actually register for the FediForum unworkshop!

Oops! :sweat_smile: I look forward to reading the discussions that ensue from it though.

Before attending #fedimtl I always treated mastodon as one big thing. I understood that there are connected instances but it's thanks to the talk @saskia gave that I've started to see it as a collection of communities who can talk to each other rather than servers on a network.

Promoting NodeBB/fedi to city-scale organizations

Now that I have the time to expand on my answer:

So, one thing I said at #FediMTL yesterday is that Fediverse software should ship with the IFTAS DNI list as the default, minimum blocklist. Ideally, the list should periodically auto-update.

If you *want* to see gore, racist harassment, or transphobia, you can consciously remove those sites from your blocklist. If you want to subscribe to a different blocklist, you should get to do that, too.

Fediverse admins shouldn't have to learn how to find the DNI list and install it the hard way.

It was nice to finally have a shindig on the slopes of Mont-fedi today.
Credit for #FediMTL @info has to go to @meadmin and @Kath at #qlub who ever-cheerfully took on the challenge of piloting our endeavour into a smooth landing and @evan for curating the lineup and being the atomic clock the fediverse can rely on.

#FediMTL I has to dip early and have been busy straight since then. But here's my closing thoughts.

First the positives:

I met some people I have been meaning to meet, and a few people came up to me because they were aware of projects I work on and wanted to express their gratitude. So that's obviously validating.

I flyered for Fediverse Night at @foulab (tomorrow night and every last Wednesday of the month!) and a few people had hears of it or were into the initiative.
