In the past few days, I’ve witnessed something among the people of Bangladesh that I never imagined: the deep respect for each other's beliefs. Amidst the ongoing floods, there was also Janmashtami for the Sanatani community, where many observe fasting and consume fruits. Those providing relief even considered this and distributed fruits among the Sanatanis. I also saw a post where someone was looking for a vegetarian cook to prepare meals for those who follow a vegetarian diet.
However, one thing needs to be clarified!
Despite all this, some individuals have taken advantage of the situation. The decision not to celebrate Janmashtami as usual this year came from the Sanatani community itself. Given the critical situation in the country, helping flood victims was considered far more important than celebrating Janmashtami. So, in line with that decision, donations were made to assist the flood-affected. However, ISKCON Bangladesh's director told the Indian media that no one celebrated Janmashtami out of fear!
This is where the problem lies. This person is not the director of ISKCON Bangladesh but rather the director of the Meherpur district branch. Unfortunately, after the fall of the government, there was an attack on the temple in that area, and much was destroyed in the fire. Because of this, there might be fear among the people in that particular district, which is why only five people visited the Meherpur temple. Although the person exaggerated certain aspects in his statement, such as claiming that millions of devotees usually attend, which is unfounded. However, in places like Dhaka and other locations, the festival was celebrated peacefully, and many people attended. Even Advisor Nahid Islam gave a speech at the event.
In these critical times, such statements in the media can have very negative effects. Everyone should be conscious and express the truth and the right mindset. The Indian media often exaggerates and misrepresents many things, and the main fault lies with them! We should always cross-check everything before commenting and sharing.

The As-Sunnah Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by the esteemed Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmadullah, prepared over 700 metric tons of food in just one day.
